Tosyalı Holding, in its long-standing collaboration with the Contemporary Istanbul Foundation, showcased the exhibition “A World Story” by sculptor Osman Dinç, who transforms steel into a work of art, during the 19th edition of Contemporary Istanbul.
Tosyalı continues its long-term partnership with the Contemporary Istanbul Foundation, which aims to support advanced recycling in art, with a brand new project in its fourth year. During the 19th edition of Contemporary Istanbul, held from October 23-27 this year in partnership with Tosyalı, the works of sculptor Osman Dinç met with art lovers. Tosyalı, which has a 70-year rooted production tradition, transforms iron, an ancient element, into a timeless form by presenting it in every aspect of life. At the 19th edition of Contemporary Istanbul, Tosyalı hosted art lovers at a unique exhibition that brought together steel and sustainable art through collaboration with Osman Dinç.
Fuat Tosyalı: “We will continue our support for artists and artworks that inspire everyone for a sustainable life.”
Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Tosyalı Holding, stated, “Sustainability has long been our main agenda at Tosyalı Holding. With the use of technology, innovation, circular production, clean, and renewable energy sources, we are one of the pioneers of green steel production in the world. As a reflection of this focus; we support advanced recycling in art with the belief that sustainability gains more meaning through art. We have a long-standing collaboration with Contemporary Istanbul in this area. At the 19th edition of Contemporary Istanbul, we had a wonderful collaboration with Osman Dinç, who creates timeless works reflecting our values. The “A World Story” exhibition was a perfect example of Tosyalı’s sustainability-focused values and the artistic transformation of steel coming to life. As Tosyalı, we will continue to support artists and artworks that inspire everyone for a sustainable life and work for a better future.”
“A World Story”: Anchoring Iron in Time
The exhibition “A World Story” by Osman Dinç, known for his extraordinary works that bring life to steel, addresses the concept of time in a different way. The artist’s nomadic thought and universal language of transfer, his relationship with personal memory and collective memory, and the simplicity of the basic forms and materials he uses liberate the audience from the belonging of space and object to time.
This exhibition, supported by Tosyalı, not only supports art but also provides a new perspective on the role of steel in the modern world. The artist’s effort to redefine time and space using the universal and timeless structure of steel symbolizes a reflection of Tosyalı Holding’s values extending from the past to the future. The project also offers a unique example of how industrial material, steel, can become a part of collective memory through artistic transformation.
Tosyalı Holding and the Contemporary Istanbul Foundation in their 4th year
Tosyalı, which set sustainability as its core agenda, initiated a long-standing collaboration with the Contemporary Istanbul Foundation in 2021. At the 16th Contemporary Istanbul in 2021, it sponsored the exhibition of the legendary sculptor İlhan Koman, known as the “Turkish Leonardo da Vinci,” supporting the rise of awareness of sustainable art and advanced recycling. In 2022, it hosted leading artists from around the world and Turkey within the framework of the “Artist in Residence” program at Contemporary Istanbul. The artists visited Tosyalı Holding’s facilities in Osmaniye to select the materials they would use for their works. The exciting artworks produced by the artists from used and scrap iron and steel products were met by art lovers at the 17th Contemporary Istanbul held in September. Last year, Tosyalı participated by supporting two different areas at the Tersane, within the framework of its collaboration, and featured in the 18th edition of Contemporary Istanbul with an artwork created through advanced recycling techniques from steel production waste by sculptor Varol Topaç at The Yard by TOSYALI. The Yard, consisting of outdoor sculptures, videos, and installations, was curated by Marc Oliver Wahler. The exhibition, where industrial objects were transformed into captivating artworks, dynamically engaged the audience in interaction with the environment. The exhibition also featured works by five international artists.
