During the events celebrating the 101st anniversary of the Republic in Balıkesir, thousands of star and crescent kites adorned the sky at the “1010 Kite Festival in the 101st Year.” Organized by the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, the event saw high participation.

As part of the Republic Day Week celebrations on October 29, the “1010 Kites Festival in the 101st Year” was organized in Balıkesir. The event, held by the Culture and Social Affairs Department of the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, attracted significant interest, and people of all ages enjoyed fun moments. At the program held in front of the Çamlık Hilal Minaret, the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality distributed kites to children for free. In addition to kites, popcorn, cotton candy were served, and balloons were given as gifts. Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın, his wife Arbil Akın, and their son Erdal Akın shared in the excitement of the children and families. Mayor Akın flew kites with the children and took souvenir photos with both the kids and their families. With the launch of the star and crescent kites, the sky was filled with beautiful sights. Families also mentioned that they had enjoyable moments and expressed that celebrating the 101st year of the Republic as a group was a very special feeling.
Excitement of flying kites with her daughter
Begüm Han Ömeroğlu Gülada, who attended the kite festival with her daughter Deniz, said, “We came to fly kites together. I never flew a kite in my own childhood. We wanted to experience this excitement with my daughter Deniz. Our Republic is 101 years old, and it will always be with us. The first thing that comes to my mind about the kite event is: ‘The future is in the skies.’ We will do our best to preserve it forever. We are here.”

Sevda Baltacı expressed her satisfaction in attending the kite festival, which was attended by thousands of people, saying, “We are very honored and proud to celebrate the 101st year of our Republic. We are coming from Bursa. It is an honor for us to participate in the kite festival. Such events give us enthusiasm and further stimulate our Atatürkist spirit. Our children also receive the same energy from us. We are happy. Even though we are older when we participate in such events, we experience the feelings of our childhood. May our flag always wave.”

Elif Can, who attended the kite festival with her family, said, “Today I had cotton candy and corn. I had a lot of fun. It was a very beautiful day. I thank Atatürk very much. He saved our country and nation. Happy Republic Day to everyone.” Mira Tonguç shared, “I had a wonderful day. Thanks to our Mayor Ahmet Akın. Everything was magnificent. I don’t have enough words to express my gratitude to Atatürk. I’m glad he existed.” Fatma Altın, who flew kites with her two children, said, “We flew kites together with my children. It was very entertaining. We thank Ahmet Akın for organizing such an event. It is wonderful to spend this proud and honorable day together.”
