The ‘Republic is Ours’ festival organized by Bakırköy Municipality for the 101st anniversary of the Republic kicked off with sports tournaments and film screenings. The Republic Cup Sports Tournaments were a scene of fierce competition and the excitement of the 101st year.

The 101st anniversary of the Republic in Bakırköy has begun to be celebrated with a series of events. Continuing its support for sports and athletes, Bakırköy Municipality dedicated the first day of the ‘Republic is Ours’ 101st Year Festival, which will last for 4 days, to sports competitions. Numerous athletes competed fiercely in various branches such as chess, tennis, bocce, and football as part of the Republic Cup Sports Tournaments held at Bakırköy Municipality Atatürk Sports and Life Village.

“Wishing for Many Beautiful Festivals, Long Live the Republic”
Bakırköy Mayor Assoc. Dr. Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu did not leave the athletes participating in the tournaments alone. Thanking the sports enthusiasts for their participation, Mayor Ovalıoğlu said, “Today is a very special and beautiful day. I am extremely happy and proud to be together in such a sports festival on the anniversary of our Republic. We are also honored to be holding the Republic Cup tournament for the first time at our Atatürk Sports and Life Village. We will continue to celebrate this Republic Week, which we enliven with culture, music, and cinema, together. I wish success to all participants. Wishing for many beautiful festivals, long live the Republic.” After her speech, Mayor Ovalıoğlu made the opening move in the chess tournament. She visited the areas where the tennis, bocce, and football tournaments were ongoing, taking photos with athletes and their families.

Revolutionary Cars met with cinema lovers
The ‘Republic is Ours 101st Year Festival’ is hosting films themed on Atatürk and the Republic, shown in cinemas across the district. Cinema lovers met with the film ‘Revolutionary Cars’ on the first day of the festival. Tomorrow at 15:00, a screening of the film ‘Yücel’s Flowers’ will take place at Marmara Forum Shopping Center.

As part of the ongoing events, the competitions under the Republic Cup Sports Tournaments will continue tomorrow at 10:00. For children, a juggler show, circus workshop, face painting, balloon modeling, movement workshop, and hopping swing parade will be organized at Atatürk Sports and Life Village.
