The national combat aircraft KAAN receives a domestic cybersecurity shield.

The national fighter aircraft KAAN’s platform cybersecurity is also being developed by Turkish engineers. STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated, “As STM, we are actively working on KAAN’s cybersecurity. Because we must not forget that whether it is a fighter jet or a warship, they are increasingly being equipped with more electronic systems. If you are not sure about cybersecurity in these electronic systems, there is always a possibility of an open door.”

STM, one of the leading companies in the Turkish defense industry, is also drawing attention with its work in the field of cybersecurity. Actively working in cybersecurity, STM plays critical roles in the platform cybersecurity of weapon systems. STM provides cybersecurity support to KAAN. Together with TUSAŞ, STM is conducting coordinated efforts to equip the National Fighter Aircraft KAAN with domestic system cybersecurity.

Providing information about cybersecurity efforts, STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz said, “In every statement, we say that cybersecurity is indispensable for us. Because we need to look at defense with a holistic approach. Today, technology is entering our lives significantly. While the technology that enters our lives makes our work easier, it also exposes us to new threats. In this sense, if adequate measures are not taken in terms of cybersecurity for any sensors and communication devices, they actually create new threats for us. Therefore, as STM, we are trying to develop products and solutions in terms of cybersecurity, especially for the defense industry, such as the establishment of cybersecurity centers for the Turkish Armed Forces or the establishment of certain data centers for our security. On the one hand, we also try to take on the responsibility of informing the public. Cybersecurity is important today, and it will become even more significant in the future. In this sense, we are trying to include cybersecurity in the systems of our platforms that we develop. On the one hand, we need to know that cybersecurity is a part of our lives and we must always be cautious. In this regard, we emphasize the need to take precautions with domestic national solutions in every job.”

“We are actively involved in KAAN”

Stating that they are working on the KAAN project, Güleryüz said, “As STM, we are actively working on KAAN’s cybersecurity. We must not forget that weapon systems on platforms, whether it is a fighter jet or a warship, are increasingly being equipped with more electronic systems. If you are not sure about cybersecurity in these electronic systems, there is always a possibility of an open door. Therefore, the cybersecurity of the platforms is extremely important. As STM, we are actively involved in projects, including the KAAN project. There are STM and other firms with expertise in cybersecurity on the project. Together with TUSAŞ, it is crucial to consider cybersecurity from the initial design stages in a highly coordinated manner, so that designing your project accordingly will make it easier to address certain issues later. That is why we have been working very actively with our TUSAŞ and other specialized firms in a very coordinated manner since the beginning of our project.”
