Farmers in Bayburt have started harvesting sugar beets produced in the fertile lands of the region. Producers who have planted sugar beets on 50 thousand decares of land expect a harvest of over 250 thousand tons. The high yield, which is expected to exceed expectations, will bring joy to the farmers.

Sugar beet harvesting has begun in the village of Çiftetaş, located in the Demirözü district of Bayburt. Bayburt Governor Mustafa Eldivan visited the producers to examine the farmers’ work on site, as harvesting is being carried out intensively in the village. Receiving information from farmers about their activities, Governor Eldivan wished them ease in their work and hoped for a fruitful season.

“We expect over 250 thousand tons of sugar beets”

Servet Çiğdem, a producer engaged in farming and sugar beet production in Demirözü, stated that they expect yields of over 250 thousand tons, saying, “I produce sugar beets in the region. After the dam built by our government in our region in 2018, we started large-scale irrigated agriculture. Along with this, we entered into sugar beet production, which is suitable for the region. Thanks to the dam, a good environment has been created for agriculture. We have reached a very serious yield in sugar beets. This year, we expect around 250 thousand tons of sugar beets. We have now started harvesting beets, and we are currently harvesting them.”

High yield in sugar beets will bring joy to farmers

Emphasizing that climate conditions are also suitable for high yields in sugar beets, Governor Eldivan noted that they expect over 250 thousand tons of harvest from 50 thousand decares of land. He stated that the fertile lands of Demirözü are very suitable for sugar beet cultivation, saying, “We are in the Demirözü district of Bayburt. Right now, sugar beet harvesting is being carried out intensively in the region, and we are harvesting the crop together with our farmer brothers and monitoring the yield. This year, sugar beet production has been carried out very intensively in the Bayburt region. Approximately 50 thousand decares of land has been used for beet production. Thank God, with good weather this year, we did not have any problems with irrigation, and there has been a significant increase in our yield. Our current estimate is over 250 thousand tons; when the harvest is completely finished, we will have a yield of over 250 thousand tons. We are in the Demirözü Plain, which is very suitable for sugar beets in terms of soil structure. Thanks to our citizens, a significant income is being generated, and through our provincial agricultural directorate, our governorate, and our district governorships, we are trying to assist our citizens in the planting, harvesting, and uprooting phases,” he said.

Governor Eldivan wished for the harvest to be abundant for the farmers and for it to bring them good profits, stating, “I would also like to thank the State Water Works Regional Directorate. Although there were some initial difficulties in irrigation, over time, the issues were resolved, and maximum effort was made to irrigate the lands in Demirözü. As a state, we have brought production to a good point in cooperation with all our institutions here. I hope that the harvest will be abundant for our farmers, be beneficial, and bring good profits. May God bless it.”
