Within the scope of the MİLGEM project, the construction of 7 corvette-class frigates is ongoing. The national ships, built with domestic capabilities, utilize technologies from Turkish companies. Providing information about the ships, STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated, “In the first ship of our MİLGEM Project, that is, in the first ship of the Ada class, the local content rate was around 20%. With our 5th ship TCG ISTANBUL, it has now risen above 80%.”

STM, which develops national and innovative systems in the Turkish defense industry, is also making a name for itself with the national ships brought to the Blue Homeland within the scope of the MİLGEM project.

In Turkey’s first national corvette project, STM plays a critical role as the main subcontractor for the delivery of 4 Ada-class ships and is also the main contractor and designer of Turkey’s first national frigate, TCG ISTANBUL. STM delivered TCG ISTANBUL to the Turkish navy this year and continues the construction of 7 corvette-class frigates that will be its siblings at 3 different civilian shipyards. The ships, constructed with high technology capabilities, also utilize products from Turkish companies.

STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz provided information about the ships produced under the MİLGEM project. Güleryüz said, “We are an engineering firm that provides all kinds of support, especially in areas requiring advanced engineering, under the leadership of the Presidency of Defense Industries. The MİLGEM project is a story that started with the design support of the Turkish Naval Forces from the very beginning, where STM gradually took on more roles and responsibilities and became the main contractor for the first of our I-class frigate, TCG ISTANBUL. Subsequently, together with the TAİS group, the construction of the I-class frigate is continuing. Currently, the construction of our 7 corvette-class frigates is ongoing at 3 different shipyards, under STM’s engineering and design responsibility. Our projects are progressing very well. Our country has really proven itself in military maritime operations.”

Pointing out that the local content rate is over 80%, Güleryüz stated, “STM has made significant contributions, especially with its design engineering strength and engineering competence. Within our military maritime ecosystem, there are many products from different companies. The local content rate in the first ship of our MİLGEM Ada Class project, which was 20-25%, has now risen above 80%. Especially, exports motivate us. We have signed significant exports abroad. We are continuing the construction of 2 corvettes based on the Ada class for the Ukrainian Navy. We will also build 3 corvettes for the Malaysian Navy. When you sell a ship abroad, you are essentially facilitating the export of more than 100 Turkish companies alongside STM.”
