Muhittin Böcek has been elected as the International Vice President of Cittaslow.

The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, a member of the Cittaslow (Slow Cities) network, proudly represented Turkey at the Cittaslow International Coordination Committee meeting held in Rome, Italy. Antalya Mayor Muhittin Böcek was elected as the Vice President of Cittaslow International during the meeting. Mayor Böcek stated that they would develop a vision to strengthen Turkey’s role in the Cittaslow movement.

The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality successfully represented Turkey at the Cittaslow International Coordination Committee meeting held in Rome, Italy on October 25, 2024. The meeting, which aimed to enhance the quality of life in cities through sustainable practices, brought together global representatives of the Cittaslow network. During the meeting, Antalya Metropolitan Mayor and Cittaslow Turkey Network Coordinator Muhittin Böcek was unanimously elected as the Vice President of Cittaslow International.

“We aim to set new standards”

During the committee meeting, Antalya Mayor Muhittin Böcek delivered a speech outlining his vision for the future of the Turkey Cittaslow network. With his election as Vice President, Mayor Böcek stated that they aim to expand Turkey’s contributions to the Cittaslow movement on the international platform, saying, “By taking on this important role, we have once again reinforced Antalya’s determination for sustainable urban development and its leading role within the Turkey Cittaslow network. We aim to set new standards in sustainability by serving as a role model within the framework of the Cittaslow movement.”

Additionally, the Antalya delegation at the Cittaslow International Coordination Committee Meeting included Cansel Tuncer, Coordinator of Antalya’s Cittaslow Metropol Project, Technical Coordinator Zeynep Tuğçe Çiftçibaşı Güç, and Technical Coordinator of the Cittaslow Turkey Network Lokman Atasoy. Cansel Tuncer, the Coordinator of the Cittaslow Metropol Project, presented on the “Metropol Project,” which focuses on sustainable urban development at the neighborhood level in Antalya. During the committee meeting, Lokman Atasoy, the Technical Coordinator of the Cittaslow Turkey Network, shared his views on the latest developments in the Turkey Cittaslow network and future perspectives. Technical Coordinator Zeynep Tuğçe Çiftçibaşı Güç also provided information about the CittaPro Capacity Development Program, which aims to empower local communities through sustainable practices.
