Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ), one of Turkey’s leading universities, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with numerous events. Information regarding activities to be carried out throughout the year was provided during the promotional program of the 50th anniversary events.
The 50th anniversary events, conducted under the slogan ‘Towards Greater Goals,’ were explained during the promotional program. The event was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Cafer Çiftçi, Prof. Dr. İrfan Kırıştıoğlu, and Prof. Dr. Zekeriyya Arı, along with members of the University Senate, deans, directors, academic and administrative staff, press members, and hundreds of students.
Events will continue throughout the year.
The promotional meeting at the Prof. Dr. Mete Cengiz Cultural Center began with the State Conservatory Children’s Choir singing the National Anthem. Following that, Vice Rector and Coordinator of the 50th Anniversary Events Prof. Dr. Cafer Çiftçi took the stage. Providing information about the works and projects carried out by the 50th Anniversary Events Committee, Prof. Dr. Cafer Çiftçi stated: “We have established a qualified team to manage these activities within our university. In our studies, we first created a special logo, slogan, song, postage stamp, promotional products, event guide, and event calendar for the 50th anniversary. After that, we visited especially prominent brands in Bursa to ask them to be stakeholders in our academic, artistic, and sports events. Many organizations positively responded to our requests, and we thank them. We will host dozens of programs throughout the year. May our 50th year bring goodness to our university, our city, and our country; towards greater goals,” he concluded.
A half-century of knowledge tree.
After the showing of the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Video, BUÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz took the stage. Starting by condemning the heinous terrorist attack in Ankara, Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz extended his condolences to the martyrs and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Continuing by summarizing the establishment process of the university, Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz stated, “Our university is now 50 years old. We see our institution as a half-century-old tree of knowledge. We are among mature universities. We are talking about a position that contributes to Turkey’s research capacity and its intellectual and artistic world. 50 years signify both maturity and youth.”
“We are the higher education brand of Bursa.”
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz also emphasized that they are among the 23 research universities in Turkey, mentioning a sweet competition among the universities in this league. Stating that they are making great efforts to rise in the rankings, Rector Yılmaz noted, “There are a total of 208 universities in Turkey. Bursa Uludağ University is among the 23 universities as a research university. Since we took office, everyone has provided strong support for this ranking. This is not just a label; it is because it is the league of more distinguished universities in the world, so we need to rise to higher ranks in this league. We are a brand that comes to mind alongside the brands that are a value to this city. We believe we need to be strongly represented within the league.”
The campus will be reforested.
Noting that the university has graduated more than 300,000 alumni, Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz said that the alumni have reached significant positions in various sectors. He also mentioned the ongoing projects on campus, saying, “We are continuing the construction of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Central Lecture Halls from our own budget. In addition to these, we are also constructing our Organ Transplant Center, Dentistry Building, and Advanced Technology Laboratory with donations from our benefactors. I would also like to thank them separately.” Addressing the fire disaster that occurred on campus on June 30, Rector Yılmaz stated, “The evacuation of the burned forests has been completed. We have quickly continued and completed our rehabilitation efforts. On November 11, we will launch a comprehensive reforestation campaign. We will implement our project in a total area of 5 hectares. Our campus will continue to be the lungs of Bursa.”
Smart campus application studies are ongoing.
In his speech, Rector Yılmaz also provided information about the smart campus application. He stated that they wanted to bring controlled access to areas outside the units where citizens receive health services, saying, “In a short period, we will start an application under the name of a smart campus. We are developing a system where the entrance and exit at the Faculty of Medicine and Görükle will be free, but controlled entries will be in the faculty sections. We have dormitories within the campus, and we sometimes witness negative images. The overall security of the campus is of great importance to us. We have made serious planning in this regard. We have prepared projects. We will soon complete these projects and start our efforts to make our campus much safer.” The organization, where the 50th Anniversary Song of the university was also introduced, ended after the participants took a commemorative photo together.
