In her speech at the ceremony, Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braze stated, “Latvia and Turkey will celebrate the 100th anniversary of our mutual relations in 2025. Latvia’s foreign policy is based on three main pillars: defense, economic relations, and humanitarian relations, and Turkey is a strong ally in all three. We want to further develop our bilateral economic relations and hope that this honorary consulate will contribute to that. Education and tourism also play a role in enhancing good relations between our peoples. Our cooperation in these three areas makes us stronger and richer and helps us understand each other better. I thank Serkan Kaptan for his ongoing work in these fields.”
“There are good relations based on a long history between Turkey and Latvia”
Serkan Kaptan, the Chairman of the Executive Board of TAV Airports and Honorary Consul of Latvia, said, “There are good relations based on a long history between Turkey and Latvia. Turkey recognized the Republic of Latvia in 1925 and opened its first consulate in the Baltic region in 1929 in Riga. There is an annual trade volume reaching 700 million dollars between the two countries. Particularly, relations in education and tourism facilitate the rapprochement of the peoples of both countries. As TAV Airports, we have been operating at Riga Airport since 2009. We are pleased to contribute to the success of Riga Airport and the country’s flag carrier airline Air Baltic. We continue to work in the Turkey-Latvia Business Council, which I chair, to improve the relations between the businesspeople of both countries. Latvia is a member of the EU and NATO. With its historical, cultural, and natural riches, as well as its educated and hospitable people, it is one of the most important centers in the Baltic region and Northern Europe. I am happy to contribute more to the development of relations between the two countries as the Honorary Consul of Istanbul.”
