Gönen Mayor İbrahim Palaz evaluated the municipality’s work over the past six months and provided information about future projects at a press conference he organized. Palaz stated that they focused specifically on infrastructure, superstructure, park and environmental arrangements, and paving work in rural neighborhoods.

Infrastructure Initiatives and Rural Neighborhoods

Mayor Palaz expressed that the paving work throughout the city is ongoing and that the necessary permits have been obtained for the completion of infrastructure projects in the city center. He emphasized the importance of renewing the electrical infrastructure in the 100th Year Neighborhood, stating that these efforts would provide a bright and safe environment for the residents. He also mentioned that arrangements made on Cemetery Street have created a suitable environment for nighttime walks.

Palaz noted that paving work has been completed in 65 of Gönen’s 90 rural neighborhoods, and that work in the remaining neighborhoods will continue in 2025 due to savings directives. He added that projects in the Sarıköy, Gündoğan, and Hasanbey neighborhoods have been postponed due to infrastructure needs.

Lighting and Indoor Market Place Arrangements

Palaz announced that lighting work in the city center has largely been completed, stating that the lamps in the area from the entrance of Bandırma to the Atatürk statue will be renewed. He announced that they have taken over the indoor market place and that it will be made safer. Necessary arrangements for nighttime walks will be made, and public toilets in the market will be renewed and made free of charge.

Daycare Project and Services for Stray Animals

Regarding daycare projects in Gönen, Palaz reported that the number of applications for the 100-student capacity daycare opened in the Karşıyaka Neighborhood has fallen short of expectations. He emphasized that they aim to open new daycare centers if demand increases. Additionally, he announced that they have applied to the Ministry of Forestry for a 35-acre area to create a modern shelter for stray animals.

Cultural Events and Collaboration with the Metropolitan Municipality

Palaz stated that they attach great importance to cultural events meeting the public. He also mentioned a concert that will be held on October 29th, Republic Day, and said that various events will be held throughout the year. Palaz expressed that the solid waste transfer station project, conducted in cooperation with the Metropolitan Municipality, has been completed and that this project is an important necessity.

New Projects and Arrangements

Palaz indicated that the Gönen terminal project is progressing rapidly, with ground surveys completed, and stated that the elderly care home project planned in the old hospital building is also ongoing. He announced that the roof of the shoemakers’ market will be closed to resolve ventilation issues and that improvements will be made around it. He also mentioned that toilets around the Mosque will be moved to the upper floor and a new fountain will be constructed.

Welcome Baby Project

Mayor Palaz stated that in the long-standing project, gift sets have been distributed to 200 newborns in the last six months. “With this project, we want to support families and also be the first to give a gift to our newborn baby,” he said.

Support for Amateur Sports Clubs

Support for amateur sports clubs continues. Mayor Palaz noted that there are 13 sports clubs in Gönen. The local administration will continue to assist the clubs within its means. Travel expenses for teams that will play away will be covered. Mayor Palaz stated, “We will provide all the support we can to our clubs that have the desire to play sports.”

At the end of the meeting, İbrahim Palaz emphasized that the Gönen Municipality will continue to offer all its services to the public and stated that they are always open to the requests of citizens.
