Samsun Atakum Vocational and Technical High School ranked second in the RC fixed-wing UAV category at the “16th Ministry of National Education (MEB) International Robot Competition” with the participation of 17 countries.
The 16th International MEB Robot Competition organized by the Ministry of National Education has been completed. A total of 1,003 institutions and 6,691 competitors from 17 countries participated in the competition. Among the high schools from Samsun, Atakum Vocational and Technical High School achieved the greatest success. The ‘Ata Wings’ team, consisting of teachers Mustafa Koçak, Mustafa Katırcıoğlu, Emrah Yüksel, and students Muhammet Kaan Uzun and Berkay Arslan, worked for 4 months in the school’s workshop to develop an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This developed vehicle succeeded in becoming the second in Turkey in the International MEB Robot Competition.

“We are producing advanced value added to our country’s technology move”
School Principal Mustafa Şahin stated, “As a high school, we participated in the robot competition organized for the 16th time by the Ministry of National Education this year with 9 students and 6 teachers in 5 categories. We achieved a significant success by ranking second in the ‘Fixed Wing’ area in the UAV category. It was an important task for us to represent Samsun, represent our country, and elevate our school’s brand value. In this sense, I believe that Atakum Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School contributes to technology development at the high school level by producing advanced value added to our country’s technology move. Our teachers are achieving significant successes in being role models and adding vision to our students.”
Electrical Teacher Mustafa Katırcıoğlu of the high school said, “After deciding to participate in this competition, we worked on the construction stages of our aircraft for about 3-4 months. We conducted test flights and became second by participating in the competition. We designed all components ourselves except for the electronic parts. We produced and made it fly by working together with our students. Every year, we involve different students in these projects. We prepare for competitions with our new students.”
The Head of the Electrical and Electronics Department Mustafa Koçak stated, “We achieved this success together with my teacher colleagues. Their dedicated work, the support of our administration, and the trust in us brought this success. Our school’s resources are very extensive in this regard. The support we receive is also complete. This is actually an investment of the past. We have been participating in TEKNOFEST, TÜBİTAK, and robot competitions for a long time. These are things that have been built upon each other.”
Electrical Teacher Emrah Yüksel stated, “The contribution of such competitions is very significant, especially for students who do not have opportunities. Students do not have the chance to participate in these competitions in any other way. They are there with other schools. They socialize. They look at the technologies of other robots.”
In addition to this success, the high school also succeeded in entering rankings in 4 different fields such as advanced level maze, underwater robot, etc., at the International Robot Competition.

They reached the finals at TEKNOFEST
The team consisting of the school’s Information Technology teachers Sibel Bahçıvan, Musa Taş, Hüseyin Özer, and students from the Information Department reached the finals at TEKNOFEST with their project on fake product control in the ‘blockchain technologies’ category.
