With the approach of winter months, there has been a significant activity in stove sales, while tradesmen who repair stoves are struggling to find workers willing to work for a daily wage of 1000 TL.

In Gaziantep, as the cold weather began to take effect, many people turned to purchasing stoves to meet their heating needs for their summer houses and homes. However, the increasing demand has brought new challenges for tradesmen involved in stove manufacturing and repair. Bülent Kavas, who manufactures and repairs stoves, expressed that the profession is beginning to die out, stating they are having difficulty finding workers who will work for 1000 TL a day.

“There may be a decrease in stove sales, but our profession will never die.”

Stove repairman Bülent Kavas indicated that there have been declines in the stove sector with the development of natural gas facilities, saying, “The stove tradition has been diminishing every year. With the advancement of natural gas and its reach to many districts of the city, there has been a decline in the stove sector, but we are striving to continue this profession. In summer houses, in villages and neighborhoods where there is no natural gas, and in workplaces, citizens prefer stoves to eliminate their heating problems. There may be a decrease in stove sales, but our profession will never die.”

“We cannot find workers for 1000 TL a day.”

Bülent Kavas mentioned that especially young people are not showing interest in this profession and prefer desk jobs, stating, “I have been working alone for a year and a half. I am trying to meet the demands. We have no chance to train new workers. We are in the final periods of this profession. There is no one who wants to pursue stove making. We offer 1000 TL a day, but we still cannot find workers.”

Bülent Kavas, who sells the stoves he repairs and manufactures in his workshop, stated that prices start from 750 TL and vary according to quality.
