Ümit Uysal’s suggestion for a national angel investor portfolio

Antalya Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal, in his opening speech at the 9th Tourism Technologies Day, stated that Turkey needs to create a national angel investor portfolio, saying, “We have no choice but to uplift this homeland. Therefore, we need to be in practices that can be applied in life, rather than just passing the ball in the middle ground.”

The Tourism Technologies Day, organized for the 9th time this year by the Turkish Informatics Association (TBD) Antalya Branch, started at the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO), bringing together the tourism sector with innovations in information technology.

In his opening speech, Mayor Uysal mentioned that a new tourism trend is emerging in the world, where individuality is increasing, personal stories are coming to the foreground, and personalized products are gaining value. He stated that this would bring higher sales, shorter travel times, and higher expenditures, emphasizing that at this point, Turkey needs to combine its products in the world tourism market with high technology. Mayor Uysal said:

“We need to renovate all our museums with high technology. We need to renovate all our archaeological sites with high technology. And we need to start presenting these to the world as a product. We are trying to do this as best as we can. As much as a municipality can do. We are striving to spread what we have been doing in Kaleiçi for 10 years to the whole city and to engage in activities that connect it with the world. But this requires a comprehensive state intelligence on this issue.”

Stating that the most important stakeholder in such a project should be national angel investors, Mayor Uysal expressed that Turkey needs to have a portfolio in this field. Mayor Uysal said, “We can also accept investments from abroad, but the angel investor habitat in the world does not always concern your inventions. You need to create your own national angel investor profile. We have no choice but to uplift this homeland. Therefore, we need to be in practices that can be applied in life, rather than just passing the ball in the middle ground.”
