In Yozgat, an explosion drill was conducted in the ongoing tunnel construction of the Kayseri-Yerköy High-Speed Train Line. According to the scenario, a fire broke out inside the tunnel, and rescue operations were carried out for 15 workers trapped under the rubble.
The explosion drill took place in the tunnel near Delice village, belonging to the Kayseri-Yerköy High-Speed Train construction site. As per the scenario, a fire broke out during the explosion, trapping 15 workers inside. Upon notification, 112 health, AFAD, UMKE, fire brigade, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene.
Gendarmerie teams took extensive security measures while UMKE and health teams intervened with the injured. The injured were rescued from the rubble and taken to nearby hospitals by ambulances. The drill, which resembled a real incident, was successfully completed.
Yozgat Governor Mehmet Ali Özkan stated that they are continuing their preparedness efforts for disasters by conducting drills for earthquakes, floods, and fires. Governor Özkan said, “Today, our institutions demonstrated how they would intervene in possible situations at the YHT station through this drill. Of course, in terms of disasters, the most important thing is to eliminate risks in the preparation phase rather than the search and rescue or intervention part. Our tunnel construction is continuing with extremely modern techniques and very advanced precautions. However, we came together to carry out such a drill to determine our intervention style in case something happens, rather than saying ‘it won’t happen.'”
Özkan thanked everyone who participated and contributed to the drill, saying, “Our drill is coordinated by AFAD, and we are here with Yozgat and Yerköy municipalities, UMKE, health teams, gendarmerie, our volunteer teams, volunteer teachers from the Ministry of National Education, and relevant institutions. This is a drill; may God not let us experience the real thing, but we must prepare ourselves. Hopefully, disasters will not occur.”
After the drill, Turkish Red Crescent served tea and soup to the citizens.
