The festival, organized by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Çankaya Municipality, and the Culture, Art, and Migration Events Center Association, held its 16th edition this year. In this festival, Eskişehir’s ‘Sui Generis Theater’ met with theater lovers in Ankara with their new season play titled ‘When Women Speak.’
The play, written and directed by Birgül Yeşiloğlu Güler, features Büşra Karadan, Elif Nur Akkan, and Duysu Özaydın in the cast. The subject of the play ‘When Women Speak’ is unfortunately based on true stories. The life of Kader, who works as a grave digger in the ‘Cemetery of the Unclaimed,’ has been filled with hardships. However, despite everything, she clings to life, and this job, which she does with great difficulty, has become a remedy for her loneliness. By researching the stories of the unclaimed funerals that come in, she gives a voice to women. The struggles of real women are narrated, from Gönül Bayhan, a famous cinema star of a bygone era, to Çiğdem, who fell into the nightlife and lost her child, and to Farran, who watched her son and husband get shot by a wall in Gaza.
The new season play ‘When Women Speak’ by ‘Sui Generis Theater’ received high praise from the people of Ankara. The audience watched the play with bated breath, creating awareness during these days when we are fighting against violence towards women. At the end of the play performed at Çankaya Municipality’s Yaşar Cultural Center, Av. Hüseyin Akçar, the Group Coordinator of ‘Sui Generis Theater,’ thanked the festival committee for their hospitality. Akçar presented the glass statue of Yunus Emre, one of the most important values of Eskişehir, to the festival committee. ‘Sui Generis Theater’ was invited to the upcoming ’17th Ethos International Theater’ festival before even leaving the stage.
