Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Architect Ferdi Zeyrek met with representatives of local and national press on World Journalists’ Day. Celebrating World Journalists’ Day, Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek stated, “The press must be free, and pens must be kept free. You must share all your views and thoughts with our people in an unbiased and fair manner, objectively.”
On World Journalists’ Day, representatives of local and national press were guests of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Architect Ferdi Zeyrek. The program was attended by CHP Provincial Chairman İlksen Özalper, Yunusemre Mayor Semih Balaban, Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Burak Deste, MASKI General Manager Talat Postacı, Deputy Secretaries General Ali Kılıç, Oğuz Murat Pınar, Pınar Mine Hacıalibeyoğlu, Ulaş Aydın, Head of the Press and Public Relations Department Zeynep Çetinkaya, President of the Manisa Journalists Association Ali Filizkan, and Honorary President of the Manisa Journalists Association Ertuğrul Aytaç.
Celebrating October 21, World Journalists’ Day, Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Architect Ferdi Zeyrek said, “You are the strongest representatives of our bond with the public. I want free press and free pens to always exist. Because I know that due to the economic conditions we are in and the pressures you face, you cannot use your pens freely. Since the very first day I took office, I have said this loudly everywhere. The press must be free, and pens must be kept free. You must share all your views and thoughts with our people in an unbiased and fair manner, objectively. I have fought for this to exist for the past 6 months. I want to express that I will continue to fight for this throughout my term.”
“There is nothing we cannot answer or explain”
Stating that he has been asked from time to time, ‘what questions should we ask,’ Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek said, “I tell them all this: Questions are free. You can ask anything you want. There is nothing we cannot answer or explain. If it is something we do not know, I will honestly tell you I do not know. Because I dream of a Manisa where transparency exists, where free thoughts exist, and where free pens write what they want comfortably. Free press in my Manisa means free citizens. Please convey your thoughts to our citizens with all your objectivity and reality, so they can benefit from it and see the reality of what we do.”
