The Faculty of Medicine at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, the Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department, and Muğla Training and Research Hospital organized a symposium on “Early Diagnosis Saves Lives” with the slogan for Breast Cancer Awareness. The symposium, held at the Atatürk Cultural Center of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, attracted significant interest from health professionals, academics, and citizens.

The opening speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. Media Subaşı Baybuğa, Head of the Nursing Department at MSKÜ Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ömer Gider, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Turhan Togan, Chief Physician of Muğla Training and Research Hospital, and Özlem Palancıoğlu, Director of Health Care Services. The speeches emphasized the vital importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer and highlighted the significance of awareness efforts.

The symposium was conducted in two sessions. The first session was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Leyla Tekin from the Department of Pathology and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülşah Köse from the Nursing Department. In this session, Dr. Lecturer Gülçin Özkan Onur from the Department of Family Medicine presented on “Etiology and Risk Factors of Breast Cancer,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Funda Dinç from the Department of Radiology spoke about “Early Diagnosis and Radiological Evaluation in Breast Cancer,” and Dr. Lecturer Cenk Yazkan from the Department of General Surgery discussed “Surgical Treatment of Breast Cancer.”

The second session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Media Subaşı Baybuğa, Head of the Nursing Department at the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Özgür Tanrıverdi, Head of the Department of Medical Oncology. In this session, Prof. Dr. Özgür Tanrıverdi presented on “Oncological Treatment of Breast Cancer,” Dr. Sadık Özöner, a Radiation Oncology Specialist, discussed “Radiotherapy in Breast Cancer,” Prof. Dr. Nezihe Bulut Uğurlu, Head of the Psychiatry Nursing Department of the Nursing Department, presented on “Psycho-Social Aspects of Breast Cancer,” and Dr. Lecturer Zeliha Seki gave a presentation on “Nursing Care After Breast Cancer and Issues Affecting Quality of Life.”

At the end of the symposium, which saw intense participation, discussions were held based on questions and suggestions from the participants. The importance of such events in raising awareness about breast cancer was emphasized once again as the symposium concluded.
