AYDIN (IHA) – Özgür Arıcı, who was elected as the mayor from the CHP in Koçarlı during the local elections on March 31 in Aydın, received imam training to assist citizens with their prayer needs and has employed personnel who can serve as muezzins and imams when necessary. The district’s residents start many activities with the prayers of the municipal imam, from births to funerals, from the opening of workplaces to weekly market shopping.
The CHP, which took over the municipal administration from the AK Party in Aydın’s Koçarlı district, has come to the fore with an interesting service. Mayor Özgür Arıcı established a “Spiritual Support Office” to meet not only the material but also the spiritual needs of the public. With the imam assigned to this office, he began to be present for the people during both their happy and sad days. Imam Ali Çıbık, who started his duties in this unit established in the municipality, performs prayers for births, funerals, weddings, engagements, and market gatherings, and provides spiritual support to the district residents in times of tragedy. This service by the CHP municipality is receiving significant appreciation in the district.
Stating that the greatest feature that distinguishes humans from other living beings is their spiritual feelings, Koçarlı Mayor Özgür Arıcı said, “As Koçarlı Municipality, we see it as our duty to be there for our citizens not only in their good days but also in their bad days. In this sense, we are with our people, sharing their sorrows or joys with prayers, thanks to the spiritual support provided by our imam Ali Çıbık. We are implementing the understanding of people’s municipalism in every area.”
Imam Ali Çıbık, who serves not only at weddings, engagements, funerals, and births but also at openings and meetings, begins the opening of the weekly market established on Mondays for nearly a century with a prayer. During the market prayer, where both buyers and sellers are reminded of the importance of honesty and abundance, everyone stops their work and participates in the prayer.
