The “13th ABU TV Song Festival,” showcasing the cultural riches of the Pacific region, took place last night at the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar International Congress and Exhibition Center.
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), the largest broadcasting union in the world, gathered in Istanbul hosted by TRT. One of the most significant events within the framework of ABU’s 61st General Assembly and Connected Meetings, which will take place from October 18 to 23, 2024, was the 13th ABU TV Song Festival, held last night at the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar International Congress and Exhibition Center. The ABU TV Song Festival, which Turkey hosted for the first time in 2015, once again brought together 11 artists from the Asia-Pacific region after 9 years, showcasing the region’s cultural wealth and providing audiences with an impressive musical experience. Broadcast live on TRT Music, the ABU Song Festival represented Turkey by Sinan Akçıl, with artists from Hong Kong – People’s Republic of China, Turkmenistan, Macao – People’s Republic of China, Japan, India, Malaysia, People’s Republic of China, Uzbekistan, Republic of Korea, and Indonesia coming together to demonstrate the power of friendship and unity through music and art by blending their countries’ cultures. At the end of the festival, TRT General Director and ABU President Mehmet Zahid Sobacı and ABU Secretary-General Ahmet Nadeem presented awards and certificates to guest artists and producers. Sobacı emphasized that the ABU Song Festival is a very important festival for different cultures to listen to each other attentively and get to know each other closely.

The event will continue with the official opening ceremony and ABU awards distribution ceremony.
The 61st ABU General Assembly and Connected Meetings will continue on Tuesday, October 22, with the 61st ABU Official Opening Ceremony, which will begin with speeches by Communication Director Fahrettin Altun, TRT General Director and ABU President Mehmet Zahid Sobacı, and ABU Secretary-General Ahmet Nadeem. The ceremony will address the impacts of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on the broadcasting world and the new challenges faced by the broadcasting sector. That same evening, the ABU Awards Distribution Ceremony will take place, where awards will be given to the winners of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union’s competition held in 15 categories across television, radio, and digital media.
