The Text Science Institute Association conducted its annual Karabağlar Plateau trip on October 20. Guided by Prof. Dr. Namık Açıkgöz, the trip involved 30 university students under the theme ‘Reading the Text of Nature’, where they explored the Karabağlar Plateau and received information about its characteristics, plants, and especially the Migration Tulip that blooms in October. The students visited the plateau’s streams and were informed about the structures of the streams and the plants found there. Several plateau houses were also visited to learn about the architecture of these homes. The students later received information about Allahın Kavağı (Allan gava) and learned about its folkloric value.
The students also tasted the red hawthorn and wild plums that are available in this season. They concluded the trip at Narlı Kahve with tea provided by the Menteşe Municipality and enjoyed games like rope skipping and dodgeball.
Providing information about the trip, the President of the Text Science Institute Association, Assoc. Prof. Ümral Deveci, stated, “For several years now, we have been organizing trips to Karabağlar Plateau with university students under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Namık Açıkgöz under the theme ‘Reading the Text of Nature’. During these trips, which we hold in the season when the ‘Migration Tulip’ blooms, we ensure that the youth learn about the trees, flowers, plants in nature, and their characteristics. By visiting the houses on the plateau, we help them learn about the architectural features of Muğla. After each trip, the young participants express that they have never looked at nature this way before and that they will view nature according to what they have learned here, wherever they may be. With such trips, every young person coming to learn here leaves as an ambassador of Muğla. We thank Mr. Ahmet Aras, the Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality for providing the vehicle for our plateau tour, and Ms. Gonca Köksal, the Mayor of Menteşe for providing refreshments at Narlı Kahve.”
