Determining safe gathering areas against earthquakes and other natural disasters in the neighborhoods of Erzincan is seen as an important step.
In a statement from AFAD, it was emphasized that, “Considering the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş that occurred on February 6, 2023, and especially in recent years in our country, it has become increasingly important to designate gathering areas that have infrastructure, pose no physical danger, and can be easily accessed by the public, in order to prevent the panic that may occur until temporary shelter areas are ready after a disaster and emergency situation, and to safely gather the public away from dangerous areas.
In this regard, the central gathering areas in our province of Erzincan have been determined in consultation with the AFAD Directorate, Erzincan Municipality, and neighborhood headmen. When determining gathering areas, places designated as park areas in the municipal zoning plan were preferred. The gathering areas have been uploaded to the Disaster Management and Decision Support System (AYDES). Our citizens can reach the nearest gathering areas using the E-government infrastructure. The updating of the designated gathering areas is carried out by our Directorate every year. In addition to gathering areas, temporary shelter areas/centers, airport, train station, AFAD Logistics Warehouse, hospital, public institutions, food storage areas to be used in disaster and emergency situations, fuel stations, and supermarkets are shown on our Disaster and Emergency Map for the city center, which is presented in the attachment.”
