The archaeological excavation work initiated by the Metropolitan Municipality in 2020, in accordance with the decision of the Conservation Board, aimed at turning the Hıdırlık Tower, an important cultural heritage and historical structure of Antalya, into a cultural and tourist attraction, has revealed ancient remnants and structures in the area. With the Hıdırlık Tower Surroundings Archaeological Excavation and Observation Terrace Project carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality, visitors can examine the remains on glass surfaces along the walking path, while enjoying the view of the Mediterranean in the section created on the cliffs.
“Most of the work has been completed”
Restoration and conservation work continues in the area under the supervision of the Department of Science Affairs of the Metropolitan Municipality. The installations of wooden cladding and glass surfaces, from which ancient remnants can be observed, have been completed in the northern and southern parts of the tower. The lighting work for the ancient remnants and the entire area, including the glass surfaces underneath, and the lighting of the tower is also nearing completion. The cleaning of plants and joint filling work on the outer walls of the historical Hıdırlık Tower has been completed. Within the scope of the second phase of the project, work will soon begin to cover the patterned floor mosaic area on the southern side of the tower with a glass surface.
