The state of the roads in the Artuklu district of Mardin and its surroundings has driven citizens to frustration. While the roads in many areas of the city have turned into a molehill, Mardin Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Türk’s decision to lay hot asphalt in Atlı Neighborhood, his own village, has sparked public outrage.
As the roads across Mardin have become impassable due to dust and potholes, the public is facing serious transportation issues. Citizens are angry about this situation, and the rapid asphalting of the 2-kilometer road leading to Ahmet Türk’s home, Kasr-ı Kanco, has raised further protests. The people of Mardin claim that Ahmet Türk prioritizes his own interests while ignoring broader issues.
Mardin Metropolitan Municipality is criticized for being indifferent to the complaints and needs of the citizens. While no concrete steps have been taken for the improvement of the badly damaged roads in the district centers and rural areas for a long time, the prioritization of the road to Ahmet Türk’s home and village reveals the municipality’s insensitivity to the public’s problems. Citizens stated that in the municipality’s understanding, personal interests are prioritized over the welfare of the people.
Prior to CHP Chairman Özel’s visit, the road was constructed
On the other hand, the planned visit of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel to Mardin next week, along with Ahmet Türk’s intention to go to his Kasr-ı Kanco in Atlı Neighborhood, adds a new dimension to the situation. Some citizens expressed that Ahmet Türk quickly completed this road to appear favorable to Özel. Residents living in dust and dirt all over Mardin reacted by stating that the municipality is neglecting its primary duty of public services.
The people of Mardin criticized Ahmet Türk for managing the municipality with an understanding that does not address the problems of the citizens. Citizens expressed that since taking office in the March 31 local elections, Ahmet Türk and his administration have not presented any concrete projects until now, criticizing the management of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality.
