The Turkish Thoracic Society’s Northeastern Anatolia Branch held its October scientific meeting in the Tuz Cave in Iğdır. Significant studies on COPD and asthma treatments were discussed at the meeting.

The Tuz Cave, located in the Tuzluca district of Iğdır and formed during salt extraction processes, has been turned into an attraction center with infrastructure, lighting, landscaping, and social area works resembling a spider web. The Tuz Cave, which has become a popular spot for citizens, hosted the “Mount Ararat Respiratory Summit-2” organized in collaboration with the Thoracic Society, Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University, and Iğdır University.

The symposium was chaired by Prof. Dr. Metin Akgün, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University, with session chairs Prof. Dr. Oya İtil from Dokuz Eylul University and Prof. Dr. Leyla Sağlam from Atatürk University. At the summit, the President of the Thoracic Society and Faculty Member of Gazi University, Prof. Dr. Nurdan Köktürk Yüksek, presented on “Altitude and COPD”; Prof. Dr. Çağlar Çuhadaroğlu from Acıbadem University spoke on “Altitude and Sleep”; Prof. Dr. Arzu Yorgancıoğlu from Celal Bayar University discussed “Recent Developments in Asthma Diagnosis and Treatment”; Dr. Tekin Sancar from Iğdır University presented on “The Effect of Salt Caves on COPD”; and Dr. Funda Ekimci from Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University discussed “The Effect of Sea High Altitude on Human Health.”

The symposium was attended by Prof. Dr. Abdülhalik Karabulut, Rector of Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University, Prof. Dr. Arzu Yorgancıoğlu, President of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), academicians, and interested parties.
