The Oğuzlar district of Çorum has been continuously making a name for itself in recent years with its water sports, paragliding, and unique natural scenery.

Oğuzlar, which is progressing confidently on its way to becoming a tourism paradise, hosts guests from all over Turkey. With a project prepared by the municipality, paragliding tracks and gazebos have been created in some bays within the Oğuzlar district located in the Obruk Dam basin. The dam has been opened to tourism with projects such as coastal facilities and picnic areas. Along with the Obruk Dam, the scenery of the basin fascinates those who see it. People from Çorum visit the district on weekends to escape the noise of the city and find themselves in the arms of nature.

Oğuzlar Mayor Mustafa Cebeci met with reporters from İhlas News Agency at the Altınkoz Facilities and made statements about the work done and the projects he plans to implement.

Reminding that Oğuzlar is famous for its walnuts, Mayor Cebeci said, “We have a geographically marked Oğuzlar walnut. In addition to high-quality walnuts, Oğuzlar hosts the Obruk Dam, plateaus, and natural beauties. We want Oğuzlar to take its place in the tourism sector with its plateaus and dam. Recently, we held our Paragliding Festival. Our district has one of the rare areas in Turkey for paragliding. We held our first festival in the Tekke Mountain paragliding area. We hope to make it a tradition every year from now on. However, our plateaus are not just for paragliding; we are working to turn them into places where caravan parks and camping sites can be established for our people to stay. We have the Çağıltepe viewing terrace in the region. Our projects will include plateau camps. We will create ATV tours and motocross areas,” he said.

“We plan to implement a floating pool project”
Mayor Mustafa Cebeci announced that they plan to implement a floating pool project as Oğuzlar Municipality, saying, “Çorum is a city without a sea. We plan to implement a floating pool project in the dam area. To allow the people of Çorum to vacation, we will build bungalow houses by the lake, caravan parks, and camping sites. We have created an area for paragliding. Next up is making a floating pool at the Obruk Dam. We have a viewing terrace and a mineral water area in our district. The concerns of Oğuzlar are not just about Oğuzlar. I believe that the state authorities, our governor, and our MPs will also support us to create a regional tourism area in Oğuzlar. For the tourism development of this region, the coastal road must definitely be constructed. The coastal road has two important aspects: one connects Osmancık, Kargı, Dodurga, and surrounding villages, while the other connects Oğuzlar and İskilip, shortening transportation for commercial purposes and opening the area around the Obruk Dam to tourism. Oğuzlar needs to provide a regional contribution to Çorum. Because there is no region like Oğuzlar in the Central Anatolia and Çorum,” he expressed.

“Oğuzlar must be taken care of”
Mayor Cebeci emphasized that Çorum needs to take care of Oğuzlar, stating, “Oğuzlar is so valuable that, as the mayor, I clearly say that Oğuzlar should not be left to the initiative of the mayors of Oğuzlar. Çorum must take care of Oğuzlar. The social and cultural events to be held here will not only benefit the people of Oğuzlar. We must turn it into a holiday resort that benefits all the people of Çorum. We will continue to pursue our goals. We believe that these will come true. We want the state authorities to support us in this regard. Due to my previous job, I have not left any province in Turkey unvisited. I want to see the beauties I have witnessed in the places I have visited here as well. There should be a viewing terrace similar to the one in Kastamonu in Oğuzlar as well. A floating pool like the one in Keban Dam in Elazığ and in Ermenek should also be here. Oğuzlar richly deserves this. Positions and ranks are not important to me. I am not a person who longs for status. I am an idealist. I will continue my work and life accordingly. I want to do politics where it should be. I believe that a successful graph will be established in the opening of Oğuzlar to tourism,” he said.

“We are ready to operate Oğuz Island as a municipality”
Mayor Cebeci also made statements regarding the facilities established by Hitit University within the scope of the Oğuz Island project in the district, saying, “This facility has been waiting here for years. It is idle. We desire for this facility to be completed as desired and for the project to come to life. If it will not be opened for service, we are ready to operate it as a municipality. The rectorate has a boat in the district. It is waiting idle. The state’s investments should not remain idle. It should be completed as soon as possible and presented to the public. A 10-year project has still not been completed. How long will we wait, what will happen? According to the information we have obtained, it is said that this area will come to life after all the projects of Hitit University in Çorum are completed. How long will we wait? By the time these projects are completed, the facility on Oğuz Island will have outlived its purpose. This issue needs to be addressed as well. Beyond Oğuz Island, there are also facilities belonging to the General Directorate of Forestry. That area is also idle. The facilities have been built, but they have not been opened for service. At least that place should also be activated. Why should the services provided by our state remain idle? Why not present them to our people?” he continued his speech.

“We invite nature enthusiasts to Oğuzlar”
Inviting nature and sports enthusiasts to Oğuzlar, Mustafa Cebeci said, “On social media about Oğuzlar, posts are being shared saying, ‘This is not Alaçatı, this is Oğuzlar; this is not Fethiye, this is Oğuzlar.’ It is true that our district is not an Alaçatı or Fethiye, but it is a settlement with its own unique beauties. As paraglider enthusiasts express, this area will rival Fethiye. We invite nature lovers from all over Turkey to our district. They should come here for boat tours, kayak trips, and camping. We aim to turn this place into a tourism paradise. We welcome all nature lovers and those interested in air sports to Oğuzlar. Additionally, we have plans to develop our Altınkoz facilities by next year with bungalow houses and a countryside restaurant on the side. After the approval of the projects, we will present both areas to our people.
