Esenyurt Municipality provides free patient transport services to help low-income citizens reach hospitals.
In Esenyurt, Turkey’s most populous district, citizens struggle to access healthcare services. With only one state hospital in the district, patients who cannot get appointments resort to going to hospitals in Istanbul. Esenyurt Municipality offers free transportation for citizens using its patient transport vehicles in this city where low-income residents predominantly live. The municipality teams start their work early in the morning, picking up citizens who cannot get to the hospital on their own and transporting them to healthcare institutions in Istanbul using mobile health vehicles. Patients who have completed their treatment and been discharged are taken back to their homes. Citizens express their gratitude to Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer for this service that makes their lives easier.
Aykut Lale, the Head of the Patient Transport Unit of Esenyurt Municipality, stated that they begin their work early in the morning: “Under the leadership of our Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, we provide patient transport services to our citizens with a social municipal understanding. We safely transport cancer patients, dialysis patients, and our patients with a 40% disability report to the hospitals where they will receive treatment. Citizens who want to benefit from the service send us their reports. Accordingly, we evaluate their applications. If deemed appropriate, we initiate our transport service. Our vehicles depart early in the morning. We pick up citizens from their homes, take them to hospitals, and bring them back after their procedures are completed. The health of our citizens is our top priority as a municipality,” he said.
Citizens can benefit from the service by making an appointment.
Patients undergoing dialysis, individuals with disabilities, and cancer patients can benefit from this service, which is provided through an appointment system, free of charge for hospital appointments, MRIs, and tomography, as well as all treatment procedures. Citizens can easily make appointments by calling the municipality’s call center at 444 0 411 at least one day in advance and connecting to the Health Affairs Department.
