In collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, an environmental cleaning event was held at Yozgat Çamlığı National Park, Turkey’s first national park.
To increase citizens’ sensitivity to the environment and raise awareness about the protection of forests, a large-scale cleaning event was organized with the support of Yozgat Governor Mehmet Ali Özkan, Deputy Mayor Osman Daştan, institution directors, non-governmental organizations, and students. In the event led by Yozgat Governor Mehmet Ali Özkan, citizens cleaned up litter while walking.
“We are creating awareness for the protection of forests”
Yozgat Governor Mehmet Ali Özkan stated that they are striving to pass on the forests to future generations in the best way possible, saying, “We are currently continuing this campaign, which we started last spring, together. Our goal is to create awareness for the protection of forests, keep them clean, and involve our people in this effort. One of the most common issues we encounter throughout the year is unfortunately forest fires, and the primary cause of these fires is human error. The second cause is glass bottles thrown into the forest, and the third is burning stubble. Therefore, we gathered here in Çamlık National Park to raise awareness on these issues.”
“Leave the forests clean”
Mehmet Baran, one of the students participating in the forest cleaning in Çamlık, said, “We joined the event to keep our forests clean, we want to collect our trash and leave this place clean for others. We collected our trash in Turkey’s first national park. We also want citizens to leave the forests clean.”
“I am here for myself and my environment”
Büşra Durak, who participated in the cleaning effort organized in Yozgat Çamlığı National Park to keep nature clean, stated, “I am here for myself and my environment, it is very important to keep our forests clean, especially cigarette butts cause forest fires, and glass also triggers forest fires. We think we have experienced enough forest fires this year, and we are here to prevent that.”
