The ‘Mother Taxi’ project has been launched by the Küçükçekmece Municipality, aiming to provide a comfortable and easy way for mothers and their babies to reach hospitals and their homes, ensuring that women are not left alone during their childbirth journey. In a statement regarding the project, Küçükçekmece Mayor Kemal Çebi said, “Within our own city, especially our pregnant mothers have difficulty finding taxis to go to and from the hospital due to childbirth. But it’s not just about the difficulty. We know that low-income citizens are also struggling. We are implementing this project starting today.”
A promotional event was held for the ‘Mother Taxis’ project, initiated by the Küçükçekmece Municipality for mothers and expectant mothers in need of socio-economic support. The promotion program at the Küçükçekmece Municipality ceremony was attended by Mayor Kemal Çebi, department heads of the municipality, and many citizens. Within the scope of the project, mothers from Küçükçekmece with appointments at state hospitals with Obstetrics and Pediatrics departments will be provided free services. Those who wish to benefit from the mother taxi service can create their taxi appointments by notifying the number 444 4 360 / 2663 during weekdays from 08:30 to 17:00, at least 2 days prior to their scheduled appointment.
“This is a project that excites us”
At the promotional ceremony held for the completed project, Küçükçekmece Mayor Kemal Çebi spoke. Çebi stated that the Mother Taxi is one of many projects in their 2024 election efforts, saying, “A few days ago, there were reports of a pregnant woman who had to take public transport to go to the hospital because she couldn’t find a taxi, and she gave birth in that vehicle. Therefore, since we have this project, we expedited its implementation. This is a project that excites us. Within our own city, especially our pregnant mothers have difficulty finding taxis to go to and from the hospital, but it’s not just about the difficulty. We know that low-income citizens are also struggling. We are implementing this project starting today.” Fatma Güçlü, a driver at the Küçükçekmece Municipality, stated, “As a driver in the Mother Taxi project, I take our pregnant mothers from their homes, take them for check-ups at the hospital, and bring them back home safely. As a mother, we had difficulty finding taxis. During my time, taxis were very expensive. This project is a great initiative. As a mother, I am very happy to be part of this project.”
