The Mayor of Esenyurt met with muhtars and their families on October 19, Muhtarlar Day.

Esenyurt Municipality organized a special dinner program for the muhtars and their families on the occasion of October 19th, Muhtarlar Day. Speaking at the program, Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer stated, “As a municipality, we focus on solving the problems of neighborhoods because each neighborhood is a part of Esenyurt. Solving the problems of Esenyurt means advancing the entire city.”

The event, held at the Esenyurt Wedding Palace, was attended by Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, CHP Esenyurt District Chairman Hüseyin Ergin, CHP Esenyurt Women’s Branch Chair Semra Kahraman, CHP Esenyurt Youth Branch Chair İsmail Araç, Esenyurt Muhtars Association President Ahmet Kuzğun, Prof. Dr. Şükrü Aslan from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Prof. Dr. Ruşen Keleş from Ankara University, Sarıyer Municipality CHP Council Member Zana Gümüş, and 43 neighborhood muhtars and their families.

“The active role of women in governance has become a source of pride”

Speaking at the event, Mayor Özer emphasized the important roles of muhtars in neighborhoods, stating, “The smallest unit of a society is the family; if the family breaks down, society breaks down. Similarly, muhtars are the smallest building blocks of democracy. If muhtarlık does not function, democracy does not function either. That’s why we place great importance on our muhtars. Out of the 43 muhtars in Esenyurt, seven are women. We especially thank the women muhtars for their services. Women were granted the right to vote and be elected as muhtars in 1933. The active role of women in governance has become a source of pride.”

“We evaluate the problems of neighborhoods together”

In his speech, Özer pointed out that muhtars work with great dedication to solve the problems of neighborhoods, saying, “As local government, we provide them with the necessary support. During our six-month term in office, we cover the expenses of our muhtars such as electricity, water, natural gas, internet, and phone bills by a decision we made in our municipal council. Additionally, we hold regular meetings with our muhtars to evaluate the problems of neighborhoods together.”

Stating that they are focused on solving the problems of neighborhoods as a municipality, Özer highlighted the importance of the Neighborhood Meetings project, saying, “Thanks to these meetings, muhtars can directly communicate the problems in their neighborhoods to the municipality, and we work together with the public to find solutions. Every neighborhood is an inseparable part of Esenyurt. Solving the problems of Esenyurt means advancing the entire city. I congratulate all muhtars, especially the women muhtars, on the occasion of Muhtarlar Day.”

Ahmet Kuzğun, President of the Esenyurt Muhtars Association, also thanked Mayor Özer on behalf of all muhtars, emphasizing the importance of the support provided by the municipality. During the program, gifts prepared by Esenyurt Municipality for the muhtars and their families were also presented.
