In addition to the presence of dyslexia or other learning difficulties in the family, factors such as premature birth or low birth weight, exposure to nicotine, drugs, alcohol, or infections during pregnancy that could affect the fetal brain development, and inconsistencies between different parts of the brain can all contribute to the emergence of dyslexia disorder. Emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis, Dr. Sarıkaya stated that although there is no definitive cure, early diagnosis and intervention can significantly aid the treatment process.
Dr. Sarıkaya mentioned that various factors can lead to dyslexia disorder, saying, “Dyslexia is a type of learning disorder that causes difficulty in reading due to the inability to recognize sounds and understand the relationship between sounds, letters, and words. Dyslexia hinders an individual’s learning ability, making it difficult to recognize, read, or write words correctly or fluently. Dyslexia is often seen in individuals of the same family. Besides the presence of dyslexia or other learning difficulties in the family, factors such as premature birth or low birth weight, exposure to nicotine, drugs, alcohol, or infections during pregnancy, and inconsistencies between different parts of the brain can lead to the emergence of dyslexia disorder.”

In treatment, special education programs where occupational therapists, speech therapists, social developers, and educators work together are recommended. Additionally, activities to develop fine motor skills should be conducted. Individuals with dyslexia are not individuals with intellectual disabilities. As a society, let us not exclude such individuals; let us embrace them and be aware.”
