Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin attended the award ceremony of the “7th Siirt International Short Film Festival” themed “Free Gaza,” which is being held for the 7th time this year.
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated that organizations responsible for protecting human rights either do not take the texts seriously or believe there is a problem with the structure of those texts. Expressing that international texts need to be re-discussed, Minister Tekin said, “Since the day Israel started attacking Palestine, there is a topic I want to bring up for discussion in many national and international environments. I also mentioned this in the UNESCO General Assembly. If international organizations do not take these texts seriously, then those international organizations are hypocritical. If they are not considering those international texts as they tell us, then there is a problem with those international texts. What I want to discuss is this: all international texts, particularly the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, are claimed to have been designed by international organizations to protect peace and law, and these texts are said to have been created during the weakest period of the Islamic world through consensus.”
Minister Tekin concluded his remarks as follows:
“I believe that these international texts should be restructured and re-discussed to include the reference values of the societies we live in, Islamic societies, the Islamic world, and the societal values of Eastern societies as values that need to be protected. Since this is an organization within a university, I wanted to reiterate this once again here. I thank everyone who contributed. I hope the number of such events increases and that their content continues to address our social issues, as it does in this event. Thank you all for attending.”
