The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ersin Tatar, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, and the Minister of National Education, Nazım Çavuşoğlu; as well as the Rector of Kosovo’s Prizren Ukshin Hoti University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani, and the Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ in their offices. Tatar expressed his hope for the TRNC to enhance its relations with Turkey and Kosovo.
The Rector of Prizren Ukshin Hoti University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani, and Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, who came to Northern Cyprus to attend the “1st International NEU DESAM Biotechnology Congress” organized by the DESAM Research Institute of Near East University, visited President Ersin Tatar, Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim, and Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu with their accompanying delegation.
The “1st International NEU DESAM Biotechnology Congress,” which lasted four days, brought together 112 researchers from 11 countries and 19 universities in Northern Cyprus. On the second day of the congress, President Ersin Tatar, Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim, and Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu welcomed the Rector of Prizren Ukshin Hoti University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani, who came to the country for the congress. During the visit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani was accompanied by the Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, who hosted the “1st International NEU DESAM Biotechnology Congress.”
President Tatar emphasized the importance of the relationship between the TRNC and Kosovo.
Expressing his happiness to host the delegation led by Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani, President Ersin Tatar wished that the cooperation established between Prizren Ukshin Hoti University and Near East University would be beneficial for both universities.
President Tatar conveyed his love to the fraternal people of Kosovo and stressed the importance of the relationship between the two countries progressing and developing in cooperation.
Regarding the isolations imposed on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, President Tatar stated that steps to be taken for some developments to occur and to enable the TRNC people to voice their concerns would be significant progress.
Referring to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, President Tatar recalled Erdoğan’s call for the development of economic, diplomatic, and political ties with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, emphasizing that the visit was very valuable for him and the Turkish Cypriot people. At the end of his speech, President Tatar wished for the enhancement of such relations.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, also welcomed Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani and Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ along with their delegation in his office. Expressing his satisfaction with the visit, Yasin Ekrem Serim recalled that during his previous role as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, his last visit was to the city of Prizren in Kosovo, stating, “I have visited over 150 cities so far. Among these cities, Prizren and Sarajevo were the ones that impressed me the most due to the spirit they carry and the spirituality they reflect.”
Ambassador Serim emphasized that Kosovo and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are very important and valuable for Turkey, stating, “We have always supported the recognition of both countries worldwide, and we will continue to provide this support decisively.” He also highlighted the importance of the cooperation developed between Near East University and Prizren Ukshin Hoti University, expressing that they would support the development of this cooperation with all their means.

Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, who welcomed the rectors and their delegations in his office, emphasized that Northern Cyprus is an education island and expressed his satisfaction with the “1st International NEU DESAM Biotechnology Congress” held at Near East University, which brought important scientists in the field to Northern Cyprus.
Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that they have historical ties with Kosovo dating back to the Ottoman period and expressed his happiness to host the delegation consisting of Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani, Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luan Vardari, and Advisor to the Rector Dr. Gjeni Imami.
