In the Menteşe district of Muğla, the day of the village heads (Muhtarlar Günü) was celebrated with a ceremony.
On October 19th, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Atatürk Monument in Cumhuriyet Square, Menteşe District, organized by the Muğla Province Muhtarlar Federation in honor of Muhtarlar Günü. During the ceremony attended by Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras, Hayrettin Akay, the President of the Muğla Province Muhtarlar Federation, made statements. Akay said, “We live in Muğla, one of the most special and beautiful cities in the world and our country. We are a large family in Muğla, which has 13 districts and 572 neighborhoods. Although the duties, powers, and responsibilities of our muhtars changed with the Metropolitan Law in 2014, our muhtars are still at the forefront in serving our citizens. With this sense of responsibility, we, the muhtars who are the first point of contact for citizens, are on duty 24/7, fulfilling our responsibilities with great dedication. We have united the district muhtars of Muğla under one roof and established the Muğla Province Muhtarlar Federation. With collective intelligence and cooperation, we have become a large, strong team. We will strive to ensure the unity that has not been achieved until now with our federation, which will close a significant gap in serving our citizens equally, fairly, and without political discrimination. Furthermore, we will not resort to simplistic statements just to get by.”
Expressing honor and pride in serving the citizens, Akay stated: “We set out with our valuable muhtar friends not to engage in politics, but to serve. As members of a large family, we muhtars will remain equal distance to every institution in our beautiful Muğla and continue to work with all our might for the peace and happiness of our citizens. As the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said, ‘Muhtars are the cornerstone of democracy.’ Within the framework of our authorities, we will re-establish our principled stance with our federation, with a participatory, egalitarian, and impartial perspective. We take pride in living in unity and solidarity in Muğla, the city of love and tolerance with all its colors. We are honored and proud to serve our citizens in Muğla, the city of freedoms, to which we are wholeheartedly devoted, as established by Atatürk’s Republic. I wish you a happy Muhtarlar Day on October 19th and extend my respects.”
The program will continue with a serving of keshek at Kurşunlu Square in the afternoon.
