In Kocaeli, women walked dressed in pink to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality organized a walk to draw attention to the Breast Cancer Awareness Month from October 1-31. The event, carried out by the Women’s and Family Services Branch of the Women and Family Services Department, aimed to inform the community and individuals about breast cancer and create awareness. Participants from Anne Şehir Merkezi Gardenya, Gelincik, Manolya, Nilüfer, and Mimoza facilities showed great interest in the event held in the districts of Gebze and Karamürsel. During the event, women walked with banners reading “Kocaeli Mothers Wear Pink in October”, “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”, “Early Diagnosis Saves Lives in Breast Cancer”, “Don’t Be Late for Early Diagnosis”, and “I’m Aware, I’m Not Afraid” to highlight the importance of early detection in breast cancer. After the walk, the women exercised outdoors with the guidance of trainers from the Anne Şehir Healthy Living Program.

“If breast cancer is diagnosed early, it becomes immortal”

Participants expressed their happiness to be part of the event and thanked Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality for organizing it. Nevcivan Özyılmaz, one of the participants, stated that the event was beneficial for raising awareness among women and the community, saying, “If breast cancer is diagnosed early, it becomes immortal. I thank Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality for organizing this. There was a large turnout. It was a very beneficial event for all of us.”

Gülay Üstün mentioned that she participated in the walk for breast cancer awareness, sharing, “My aunt also defeated cancer because she was able to detect it early. She is very healthy now. Therefore, it is very possible for people to check this at least once a year with cancer screenings. I also get cancer screenings. Early detection saves lives. Our doctors always say this. I really believe it, and I am a living witness.”
