The event held at Erzincan Demirkent TOKİ Middle School on the occasion of World Food Day featured colorful scenes.

In collaboration with the Erzincan Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Erzincan Provincial Directorate of National Education, the event at Erzincan Demirkent TOKİ Middle School and Primary School highlighted the local products of Erzincan.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations celebrates October 16, the date it was established in 1945, as World Food Day (WFD) with various activities in over 150 countries every year. This year’s theme has been determined as “The right to food for a better life and a better future.”

In this context, a comprehensive program was organized at Erzincan TOKİ Middle School and Primary School in cooperation with the Erzincan Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Erzincan Provincial Directorate of National Education. Initially, a charity fair was held as part of World Food Day, with the proceeds to be donated to the Parent-Teacher Association of Demirkent TOKİ Middle School and Primary School. The local delicacies of Erzincan received great interest at the charity fair. While shopping, children showed intense interest in Erzincan Tandir Kete, Erzincan Lokum, Erzincan Sour Dish, Erzincan Cut Soup, Erzincan Cimin Grape, Erzincan Sakı Pear, Erzincan Gasefe Dessert, köme, pestil, and dried fruit products.

As part of the event, the final of the School Farm Project, implemented under the theme “If You Want to See a Miracle, Plant a Seed” as per the protocol organized between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of National Education, was also conducted.

Additionally, the teams from the Food and Feed Branch of the Erzincan Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry conducted various educational programs on healthy and safe food for students throughout the day in classrooms.

The event was attended by Erzincan Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Serkan Kütük, Basic Education Branch Manager of the Provincial Directorate of National Education Abdulvahap Terece, school principals, students, and personnel from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.

Providing information about the event, Erzincan Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Serkan Kütük stated, “2024 World Food Day emphasizes the vital importance of food. Life is directly dependent on food, air, and water for everyone. Despite farmers worldwide producing enough food to feed a larger global population, hunger continues to persist. Approximately 783 million people face hunger due to conflicts, recurrent extreme weather events, and economic downturns. Malnutrition adversely affects the health of millions, hindering growth and development. Therefore, highlighting this issue is crucial to ensure food security and the availability of nutritious food for everyone on the planet. A significant number of people worldwide cannot feed themselves healthily and diversely. That is why this year’s World Food Day focuses on the right to food. Everyone has the right to a diverse, nutritious, safe, affordable, and easily accessible diet. Food rights should be integrated into agricultural-food systems policies and programs to ensure equal access to sufficient, diverse, nutritious, safe, and affordable food for all.”

Deputy Director Serkan Kütük noted that they organized a comprehensive event with the students, the final of the School Farm Project applied at the school was conducted, and students were provided food education by food inspectors.
