The United Cities and Local Governments World Organization (UCLG) and Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay made statements regarding the death of Nebatiye Mayor Ahmed Kahil in the attack carried out by Israel on the Nebatiye Municipality building. Mayor Altay said, “As the UCLG President, I condemn the attack on our mayor.”
Stating that the bloodstained Israeli administration has carried out the bloodiest oppression in human history in the past year, particularly in Gaza, the West Bank, and all regions where Muslims live in Palestine, Mayor Altay said that thousands of Muslims are martyred every day with an understanding that targets civilians without distinction between women and children, and that the Israeli administration, instead of slowing down, continues to increase its oppression, having killed more than 40,000 people.
“I condemn the attack on our mayor”
Mayor Altay pointed out that recent events in Lebanon are also an indication of this, saying, “Targets are being bombed in Lebanon without any distinction for civilians. The bloodstained Israel continues its oppression uninterruptedly. We received very sad news yesterday. The Municipal Council Meeting of the Nebatiye Municipality was knowingly, deliberately, and intentionally targeted by the Israeli administration. Unfortunately, we have martyrs, including our colleague Mr. Ahmed Kahil and five council members. I pray for the deceased. Especially, the deliberate targeting of institutions that provide electricity, water, and food to people trying to survive under difficult conditions in public service is a crime against humanity. I call on everyone to react to this. As the UCLG President, I condemn the attack on our mayor,” he stated.
“Hopefully, this shameful situation in human history will end as soon as possible”
Mayor Altay continued his speech with the following words: “We have an obligation to ensure that local administrators can live and to make statements regarding this, especially the United Nations and our global organization. Because the inability to provide the services here will create exactly the situation that Israel desires, it will create an environment of chaos and cause people to leave their homeland. The people living there continue to bravely stay in their places despite all difficulties. Hopefully, these attacks will end as soon as possible, and this shameful situation in human history will come to an end soon.”
“We need to stop the oppression of bloodstained Israel together”
Emphasizing that Israel is now a bloodstained state recognized by the whole world, Mayor Altay concluded his remarks by saying, “Israel increases its oppression day by day by especially targeting civilians without distinction between women and children. Humanity must respond collectively, and we need to stop the oppression of bloodstained Israel together.”
