The brightest comet of the last 13 years, C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-Atlas, was captured in a photograph alongside the Selimiye Mosque, the masterpiece of Mimar Sinan, in Edirne.

Kaan Erbayraktar, a photography enthusiast living in Edirne, managed to capture the brightest comet of the last 13 years, C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-Atlas, in the same frame as the Selimiye Mosque.

He waited for 2 hours

Photographer Kaan Erbayraktar expressed his happiness at having the chance to witness and photograph one of the most impressive comet passes in history. He mentioned that he kept watch for about 2 hours last evening to capture this natural event that astro photographers will witness only once in their lifetime.
Erbayraktar stated, “To be able to observe and document this special moment, I first came to the upper part known as Şahin Tepesi, where there is light pollution and the Selimiye Mosque is in the same frame. I prepared my equipment and continued to wait. After about 2 hours of waiting, I saw this special moment and immediately photographed it. The Selimiye Mosque, Edirne, and Tsuchinshan-Atlas. I am happy that I witnessed and documented this special sky event.”
Discovered by scientists in January 2023, the C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas) comet has been eagerly awaited by sky enthusiasts. The comet is now visible in the skies of Turkey. With an estimated orbital period of about 80,000 years, the C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas) comet will be observed again on the western horizon after sunset from mid-October, provided it does not break apart.
