The inclusion of three companies from Torbalı, İzmir, in the latest list of adulterations drew the reaction of Torbalı Chamber of Commerce (TTO) President Abdulvahap Olgun. Highlighting that these companies engaged in address fraud, Olgun stated, “We initiated a disciplinary process, visited the workplaces, but the registered address turned out to be an empty shop.”
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry had announced the companies producing foods confirmed to be counterfeit or adulterated based on laboratory analysis results. Recently, the Ministry published a list on its official website containing a total of 615 product batches. This list included many products, from soft drinks to honey, tea to olive oil, and also named three companies from Torbalı. These companies are accused of producing spoiled and altered foods that pose a danger to public health. In a statement by the Torbalı Chamber of Commerce (TTO), it was noted that disciplinary processes regarding these companies were quickly initiated and that inspection teams went out into the field for investigations. However, a surprising situation was encountered during the inspections. The companies mentioned in the list could not be found at their registered workplace addresses. It was determined that the companies committing address fraud were not operating at their registered addresses.
There is address deception
In a statement regarding the issue, TTO President Abdulvahap Olgun emphasized that such companies tarnish the name of the district with fake addresses. Olgun said, “While we take pride in the companies that have established the brand of Torbalı, pay taxes, and produce exemplary goods on every platform, some fraudsters are trying to tarnish the name of our district with address deception. Out of the three companies listed by the Ministry, two are registered with our chamber. We have initiated a disciplinary process regarding these companies. But here we also encountered a separate fraud. The company’s brand is ‘Ayvalık’ but its address appears as ‘Torbalı.’ The registered address is an empty shop. It is a system entirely built on fraud.”
