In order to draw attention to the importance of food safety and sustainable agriculture, an event was organized by the Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Çan District Directorate of National Education at Çan Etili Primary School on ‘World Food Day’.
The event was attended by Çan District Governor Dr. Emre Nebioğlu, Çanakkale Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Nazan Türkarslan, Çan District Director of National Education Fuat Kılıçaslan, and Çan District Director of Agriculture and Forestry Belma Türe, along with branch managers, technical staff, teachers, and students.
Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Nazan Türkarslan stated: “On October 16, the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), we held an event themed ‘Food Rights for a Better Life and a Better Future’. Our aim was to raise awareness among our children, who are the guarantee of our future, about food safety, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture, and we are very happy to see that we achieved this. In our event, we provided informative presentations to our students about the importance of World Food Day. We awarded the students who succeeded in the competitions we organized. Additionally, we offered tahini halva, nuts, and apples to all participants. With these offerings, we aimed to highlight both our traditional and healthy foods. The interest and participation of our students in the event are promising for the future. Their awareness of these issues will lay the foundation for steps to be taken for a healthier and more sustainable world in the future. The fact that approximately 783 million people are still fighting hunger in the world once again underscores the importance of such awareness efforts. In combating challenges such as climate change, conflicts, and economic problems, it is essential for all segments of society to work together. On this occasion, I invite all our citizens to be sensitive to issues such as preventing food waste, adopting healthy eating habits, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices. Access to sufficient and healthy food is a fundamental human right, and it is our duty to protect this right. Such events will continue to raise awareness about food safety and sustainable agriculture in all segments of society.”
The Çan District Directorate of National Education’s Work Review and Evaluation Commission organized an inter-primary school drawing competition and an inter-secondary school poetry competition as part of World Food Day. Gifts were presented to the students who ranked in these competitions.
Students left the event satisfied with the information they received and the awards they won, while parents expressed their pleasure regarding their children’s awareness of food issues.
