A Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar was held in Bakırköy.

The Bakırköy Municipality organized a awareness seminar within the framework of “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” The event addressed all processes of breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis.

As part of the Breast Cancer Awareness and Awareness Month from October 1-31, Bakırköy Municipality held a seminar. The event took place in the training hall of Bakırköy Municipality Medical Center, featuring guest speaker Prof. Dr. Neslihan Cabıoğlu, a general surgery specialist, who highlighted the importance of early diagnosis.

“We have made our health services more effective”

In the opening speech of the program, Bakırköy Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu noted that raising awareness about breast cancer, the most common type of cancer among women, is of vital importance. She stated, “Every year, 2.3 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and unfortunately, 670,000 women lose their lives due to this disease. In our country, over 25,000 new breast cancer cases are diagnosed each year, and more than 7,000 women lose their lives because of this illness. Therefore, I consider our awareness activities as one of the most important efforts of our municipality’s health services. As a physician, I know how critical Family Health Services are in early diagnosis and treatment. That is why we have made our municipality’s health services more effective since the day we took office. By prioritizing public health above all, in just six months, we have provided services to 8,554 patients across various specialties, from physical therapy to women’s diseases, family medicine to chest diseases. Additionally, we provided home health services to 708 citizens and facilitated patient transfer services for 107 citizens,” she said.

Free mammography support

Pointing out that early diagnosis saves lives, Mayor Ovalıoğlu stated, “Our breast cancer awareness activities carry special importance in protecting and raising awareness about the health of our women. Because let us not forget that saving lives through early diagnosis is in our hands. We must be conscious and sensitive about this by not neglecting regular mammography screenings. The mammography service we provide in cooperation with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is a testament to our sensitivity on this issue. With the efforts we undertake to protect the health of our women, we continue to take new steps towards a healthier future in Bakırköy. With the important information our esteemed professor will provide, we will raise our awareness level and learn better ways to protect our health. We will continue to work tirelessly to step into a healthier future in Bakırköy with your support and cooperation,” she said.

“Get your treatment regularly every year”

Emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer, Prof. Dr. Cabıoğlu stated that regular doctor check-ups would minimize the risk. Cabıoğlu said, “The possibility of treatment increases with early diagnosis. This also enhances your quality of life. With the acceleration of the results obtained in treatment, your chance of survival increases. Therefore, make sure to get your treatment regularly every year.”
