The 102nd anniversary of Karacabey’s liberation from enemy occupation was celebrated with various events in the district. The activities began with an official ceremony held in Cumhuriyet Square and continued for three days. This year, the liberation celebrations merged with the traditional Karacabey Fair, resulting in colorful scenes.

The official ceremony for the 102nd anniversary of Karacabey’s liberation from enemy occupation began in Cumhuriyet Square. The ceremony was attended by Karacabey District Governor Hakan Kafkas, Karacabey Mayor Fatih Karabatı, Chief Public Prosecutor Sadullah Gümüş, District Police Chief Ümit Şahin, District Gendarmerie Commander Captain Mahir Yağmur, protocol members, representatives of political parties, NGO representatives, and citizens who showed great interest.

The ceremony in Cumhuriyet Square started with a moment of silence and the reading of the national anthem. Following the presentation of wreaths from the District Governor’s Office, the Mayor’s Office, and the Garrison Command at the Atatürk Monument, Mayor Fatih Karabatı delivered a speech explaining the significance of the day. In his speech, Karabatı stated, “September 14 is one of the most important days in the history of our Karacabey. Today, we celebrate the anniversary of Karacabey’s liberation, which symbolizes our nation’s heroism and struggle for freedom, with joy and pride. On this meaningful day, when the War of Independence was crowned with victory, we remember with gratitude and respect all our martyrs, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades, who made this land our homeland; and we express our gratitude to our veterans. Our duty is to protect this sacred legacy and pass it on to future generations.”

After Karabatı’s speech, Zehra Betül Yılmaz, a student from 14 September Middle School, recited a poem conveying the significance of the day. Following this, a concert by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Band received great appreciation.

Liberation martyrs were commemorated with prayers

As part of the liberation day activities in Karacabey, Mayor Fatih Karabatı, accompanied by the protocol, first commemorated the graves of the liberation martyrs in Taşlık with a ceremony. After honoring the Taşlık martyrs, prayers were held at the grave of Kahraman Demir Dede in Kulakpınar Neighborhood, who saved the entire village from death before September 14. Finally, after prayers for the heroic soldiers who fell during the repair of the Canbalı Bridge, which was burned by the enemy, carnations were placed in the stream.

Festival excitement continued with concerts

The events, which started after the official ceremony and lasted for three days, took place at Karaca Park this year. Along with the liberation celebrations, the traditional Karacabey Fair was also set up. The events began with a concert by the popular pop music group Gece Yolcuları. The concert, attended by numerous citizens from ages seven to seventy, featured Gece Yolcuları performing beautiful songs for the people of Karacabey. Mayor Karabatı was among those attending the concert. He thanked the Gece Yolcuları team on stage and presented gifts related to the significance of the day, receiving great interest from the citizens.

The celebrations continued in Karaca Park with concerts by local music groups Anatolia and Balyoz in the following days.

“We will continue to celebrate many beautiful days in unity and togetherness”

In a statement highlighting the importance of unity and togetherness during the September 14 events commemorating Karacabey’s liberation from enemy occupation, Mayor Karabatı said, “Our liberation day reinforces our belief in the future of Karacabey with the strength we draw from our history. The intense participation of our fellow citizens in this year’s Liberation Day Events made us very happy. We experienced the pride of our liberation and showcased Karacabey’s social and cultural richness once again with the events held over three days. Today, we see that when we are united in solidarity, there is no obstacle we cannot overcome. While we build the future together, we will never forget the spirit of national struggle and the love for independence and freedom.”

Mayor Karabatı also thanked all team members and the people of Karacabey who contributed to the organization of the festival, adding, “We will continue to celebrate many beautiful days in unity and togetherness.”
