The era of ‘Pay as you go’ in transportation.

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which has brought many innovations to transportation in the city, is launching another new application that will contribute to the budgets of citizens. BURULAŞ announced that the ‘Pay as You Go’ application will be implemented starting from September 17th.

To encourage public transportation in Bursa, the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality is introducing another new application that will benefit the budgets of Bursa residents. Ranking 4th among the 5 major cities in Turkey in terms of the cheapest public transportation fares, and keeping the student fare at 5 TL, the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality is initiating the ‘Pay as You Go’ period in public transportation. Accordingly, passengers traveling between 1-5 stations in BursaRay will receive a refund of 5.00 TL, while those traveling between 6-11 stations will receive a refund of 2.00 TL. No refunds will be applied for journeys of 12 stations or more.

In a statement made by BURULAŞ, one of the subsidiaries of the Metropolitan Municipality:

“Starting from 00:00 on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, we are launching the ‘Pay as You Go’ application. With this new system, we are entering a fairer and more flexible pricing period in public transportation. Our passengers will now only pay for the distance they use, making the public transportation experience more economical. Passengers traveling between 1-5 stations in BursaRay will receive a refund of 5.00 TL, while those traveling between 6-11 stations will receive a refund of 2.00 TL. No refunds will be applied for journeys of 12 stations or more. Refunds will also be applied to Full BursaKart and expired card types (for example; expired personalized cards, student, teacher cards). Passengers who receive transfer discounts when boarding BursaRay will not benefit from the refund system. For example, in a journey that starts with a bus and then transfers to BursaRay, since a transfer discount is applied, no extra discount will be given under the ‘Pay as You Go’ framework. The refund period is set at 90 minutes from the passenger’s first boarding.

To receive a refund, the first boarding point of the journey must be BursaRay. In this case, the refund system will be activated.

The T2 tram line is not included in the refund system. Virtual cards are not included in the refund system. With this innovation, we aim to contribute to the economy of our city and the budgets of our citizens by offering a more flexible pricing in public transportation. As BURULAŞ, we continue our work to provide better service to the people of Bursa. With the ‘Pay as You Go’ application, we aim to provide our passengers with a more comfortable public transportation experience by offering a fair pricing for each stop.
