Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor İmamoğlu paid a condolence visit to the family of a martyr in Trabzon.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu visited the family of a martyr in Trabzon, where he indicated that he has relatives, and recited the Yasin Surah at the martyr’s grave.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu arrived today in his hometown Trabzon. Mayor İmamoğlu was welcomed at Trabzon Airport by Ortahisar Mayor Ahmet Kaya, CHP Trabzon Provincial Chairman Mustafa Bak, Ortahisar District Chairman Haluk Batmaz, district chairpersons, and party officials.

Speaking at the airport, Mayor İmamoğlu stated that the purpose of the visit was to pay respects at the grave of Infantry Lieutenant Ömer Fatih Ayar, who was martyred in a clash with members of a terrorist organization in Iraq a few days ago, and to convey condolences to his family. İmamoğlu, who expressed that he is a relative of the martyr Ömer Fatih Ayar, said, “We are from the same family. As you know, families in Trabzon have spread out due to different migrations. We are from Akçaabat but originally from Köprübaşı. Therefore, we have connections with the İmamoğlu families in Köprübaşı, Maçka, and other places. I could not attend the funeral of our martyr because I had an overseas program. However, I said I would visit as soon as possible. Now we will go and express our condolences and pray. We want our hometown to be peaceful. I hope that we will also experience the days when we all get rid of all the elements that harm our homeland, both inside and outside, and the terrorist organizations; this is what I wish.”

Recited Yasin at the martyr’s grave

Afterward, İmamoğlu and his companions left the airport and headed to the Köprübaşı district to visit Martyr Ayar’s family. During his visit, İmamoğlu offered his condolences to the family and then went to the grave of Martyr Ayar, where he recited the Yasin Surah. After İmamoğlu’s recitation, emotional moments occurred as Martyr Ayar’s father Ali Yılmaz Ayar was unable to hold back his tears while giving a brief speech. Ayar stated that İmamoğlu’s visit should not be misconstrued, saying, “He is our family friend and has come to pay his respects.”
