“In the footsteps of history in Erzurum. The Loyalty Project to Our Ancestors” conducted a model study at the Büyük Höyük Tabyası by the Erzurum Police Department.
With the initiative of Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi, the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of 23 fortifications in the province were entrusted to 23 institutions and organizations operating in Erzurum within the scope of the “In the Footsteps of History, Loyalty to Ancestors Project.” A general order was published by the governorate regarding the protection of cultural and natural heritage values. In this context, the Erzurum Police Department undertook an exemplary initiative at the Büyük Höyük Tabyası, for which it is responsible for cleaning and maintenance. Under the leadership of Provincial Police Chief Kadir Yırtar, personnel participated in cleaning and maintenance activities at the Büyük Höyük Tabyası. In a statement made by the police department regarding the issue, it was stated, “We thank all our personnel who contributed and pay our respects to our ancestors who entrusted this homeland to us.”

Awareness was aimed to be raised
Within the project implemented for the protection of cultural heritage, it was aimed to raise awareness by entrusting the 23 fortifications, which played a vital role in the defense of Erzurum during the Ottoman-Russian War, to 23 volunteer institutions, organizations, and NGOs. Activities such as institutions and organizations promoting historical sites, organizing cultural and artistic events in the fortification areas from time to time, social sensitivity activities with cleaning, historical compilations, and other designated works to improve environmental conditions were planned. It was also decided that, by the end of the year, activities carried out in the fortifications under the supervision of 23 institutions, organizations, and NGOs would be evaluated by an established committee and rewarded.
