The Çeşme Festival, held by Çeşme Municipality between September 13-16, has begun. This year’s festival, organized with the theme of “Çeşme in the 90s” and lasting for 4 days, includes a variety of events that will revive the spirit of the 90s, from talks to concerts, exhibitions to children’s game workshops, and folk dance performances. In addition to Mayor Lâl Denizli, district protocol attended the opening. The festival started with a parade walk beginning at Çeşme Marina entrance and ending at Cumhuriyet Square, followed by a moment of silence and the National Anthem read at Cumhuriyet Square, continuing with a performance by the Çeşme Municipality Folk Dance Community.
In the “Çeşme in the 90s” talk held at the Ayios Haralambos Cultural Center, Çeşme City Council President Dr. Ahmet Güler, Çeşme Association of Tourist Hoteliers and Operators (ÇEŞTOB) President Orhan Belge, and Dr. Erdener Kavalcı participated as speakers. Mayor Denizli presented participation certificates to the speakers. The first day of the festival peaked with the Duo Blue concert at Çeşme Cumhuriyet Square.
“We will take a sweet journey into the past”
In his speech here, Çeşme Mayor Lâl Denizli invited citizens to the festival, which will last for 4 days, and stated:
“We chose the 90s as our theme for the Çeşme Festival. I am a person who spent my childhood in the 90s. I am a person who loves being a child in Çeşme the most during the 90s. All the early years of my childhood and youth went like this in Çeşme, which had not yet grown, where we did not get off our bicycles, where we went everywhere by bike, where we went to open-air cinema with our friends, and played street games, and many similar things. Çeşme’s development is very valuable, but we must do this without losing our values that make us who we are. I believe it is important to preserve some touches related to our nostalgia about our youth and our childhood. This weekend, we will experience a bit of history at our traditional Çeşme Festival. There will be talks, concerts, and we will take a sweet journey into the past, where you will listen to comparisons of how it used to be and how it is today in gastronomy, tourism, and health.”
