Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed by Israel, was laid to rest in Didim, Aydın, while her grandmother Nevran Birden expressed that the death of her granddaughter overshadowed all her other losses, saying, “My child said she would go and return, but she did not come back.”

Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish-American citizen who was killed by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank while supporting Palestine against Israel’s occupation, was buried in Didim in a ceremony. There was a large turnout at the funeral held at Didim Central Mosque, and Ayşenur’s grandmother, Nevran Birden, who struggled to stand, stated, “I have experienced many deaths, but this one overshadowed them all.” Expressing that Ayşenur went and did not return, grandmother Birden said, “My child was a very sweet girl. She said, ‘I will go and return,’ but she did not come back. My child was shot. They shot from 230 meters away. My little one was under a tree. Since Friday, I don’t know whether I am on the ground or in the sky. I have experienced many deaths, but this one overshadowed them all.”

“We will continue to fight with pens.”
Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi’s cousin, Gülşah Aslan, also expressed the desire for the cause of death to be accurately explained, saying, “Thank God it came quickly. It could have taken longer. Our state expedited the process, but this girl went through 3 autopsies. Despite being shot by a sniper. They are trying to deny this. They say she was under an olive tree in a non-war zone. She received CPR six times. She died, but we want them to explain the cause correctly. We will follow the legal process for this. We cannot take up arms and fight, but we will continue to fight with pens. The pens will be our weapons. I will reach out to everyone I can. Because they need to correct that report,” she stated.

“I hope this will lead to the end of the war.”
Ayşenur’s aunt, Münevver Aslan, said that Ayşenur was a child against war, stating, “She was a child who served her country and its people. Indeed, as a result of her struggle, she was a very foresighted child focused on her goals. She was someone who worked for humanity and children, a child against war. My heart is burning. I hope this situation will help stop the war. I hope it stops the war. I hope her struggle will not be in vain.”
