Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated, “Revolutionary works have been done in terms of education in Turkey.”
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin visited Sinop as part of various visits and opening programs. First, he visited the Sinop Governorship, where he held a brief meeting with Governor Mustafa Özarslan and the provincial protocol. After the meeting, Minister Tekin moved on to the Rahmi Demir Social Facilities and the AK Party Provincial Presidency, followed by a visit to tradespeople on Sakarya Street. After visiting Mehmet Akif Ersoy Secondary School and having a Teachers’ Room Meeting, Minister Tekin then attended the opening ceremony of Yusuf Kemal Tengirşenk Social Sciences High School.
Speaking here, Minister Tekin indicated that revolutionary works have been done in education in Turkey, stating: “Starting with the Prime Ministry of our esteemed President and continuing in this process, revolutionary works have been done in education in Turkey. I always say this: the things we have done, which I will mention shortly, if we say these were done in any part of the world, in any country, we would teach them as an education revolution in our faculties of education and political science. When I spoke with World Bank officials last week, I mentioned the examples I provided in this regard. The World Bank officials and representatives were there; when we discussed these matters together, they echoed the statements I made earlier. Therefore, what has been done is truly beautiful; however, our esteemed President says: ‘We have done it, we do not say enough, we have done it, we will continue to do it, we will continue to do better because our nation deserves better and more beautiful.’ At this point, we are also taking steps regarding educational processes and content. Our esteemed Governor mentioned this while speaking; we are doing something with the Turkey Century Education Model. Educational processes around the world have now evolved from merely providing information to transforming that information into skills. If we still say: ‘No, let’s continue with this logic, let’s have our children memorize,’ then we will fall behind the implementations in the world. Social sciences high schools are very important for us because there is a high demand for science high schools. We are now developing the social sciences high schools that we established as an alternative. This is actually significant in terms of the weight of social sciences against natural sciences as indicators of the economic and social development of countries. I hope that in the coming periods, social sciences high schools will continue to be among the most prestigious schools in Turkey. In this regard, naming the social sciences high school after Yusuf Kemal Tengirşenk is also significant. I don’t want to extend this too much; I thank you all. I thank the governorship, municipality, and politicians who support and contribute to the educational process in Sinop.”
Following Minister Tekin’s statements, the opening of Yusuf Kemal Tengirşenk Social Sciences High School took place.
