Aydın Metropolitan Municipality made a press statement regarding the approval process of the Aydın Zoning Regulation.
In the statement made by Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, it was stated, “To inform the public regarding the approval process of the Aydın Zoning Regulation, which will enter into force upon publication in the Official Gazette on September 1, 2024, the following explanation needs to be made. In the context of the Aydın Zoning Regulation studies, letters were sent to 17 district municipalities in March and June 2018 to request their opinions and suggestions. Based on the opinions and suggestions received from the district municipalities, the draft Aydın Zoning Regulation was sent to the 17 district municipalities and the relevant professional organizations, including the Chamber of Architects, Chamber of Civil Engineers, Chamber of Electrical Engineers, Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, Chamber of Mapping and Cadastre Engineers, Chamber of City Planners, Chamber of Geological Engineers, Chamber of Geophysical Engineers, and the Chamber of Landscape Architects, with our official letter dated June 10, 2020, requesting that their feedback on the draft be communicated to us. Adjustments were made to the draft regulation based on the received opinions and suggestions, and it was presented to the Metropolitan Municipality Council on October 13, 2020. During its examination by the zoning commission, the opinions conveyed by the Aydın Provincial Coordination Board Secretariat of the Union of Turkish Engineers and Architects on March 5, 2021, were also evaluated, and the final version of the regulation was submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. In a letter dated September 22, 2022, the Ministry requested corrections to the regulation, and additional measures related to earthquakes were added multiple times via email and official letters until the date of the regulation’s publication in the Official Gazette. Accordingly, a unanimous decision was taken by the Metropolitan Municipality Council and submitted for the Ministry’s approval. The draft in question passed the approval of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and was published in the Official Gazette dated September 1, 2024, and has come into effect. This regulation, prepared with a participatory approach by taking lessons from the major earthquake disasters our country has experienced, constitutes an important part of the pre-disaster preparations of the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change while safeguarding the safety of life and property of our people.”
