Yüreğir Municipality has created a memorial grove in the Atakent neighborhood to honor the name of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who was murdered in the Tavşantepe village of the Bağlar district in Diyarbakır.

Yüreğir Municipality established a memorial grove with 300 saplings for the murdered Narin in the Atakent neighborhood. The sapling planting ceremony for the ‘Narin Grove’ was attended by Yüreğir Mayor Ali Demirçalı and his wife Fidelya Demirçalı. Speaking at the ceremony, which was also attended by citizens, Demirçalı expressed that the ‘Narin Grove’ was created to ensure that Narin’s name is preserved forever after the tragic murder that shook Turkey, where her lifeless body was found after being missing.

“Our Narin will live with every breath”
Mayor Demirçalı stated that they would plant hundreds of saplings in this area to keep the memory of Narin, who was taken from life while being a tiny sapling filled with love and life, alive. He said, “We chose the sapling and tree, which are considered sacred in every belief and culture, as symbols of love and vitality, to ensure that the name of our daughter Narin is preserved and not forgotten. We wanted our Narin to live with every breath. We hope that our memorial grove will grow and develop with the infinite love in Narin’s heart, permeating every segment of society, and that it will plant seeds of love in the hearts that are devoid of love.”

Mayor Demirçalı also called for those responsible for Narin’s death to be held accountable before justice as soon as possible, stating, “Whoever took Narin’s life, and those who helped or remained silent should be held accountable before justice. Let children not die, let Narin’s live.”

After the speeches, Mayor Demirçalı, together with his wife Fidelya Demirçalı and participants, planted the prepared saplings.
