The third International Culture and Art Festival held in Midyat attracted intense interest from local and foreign citizens.
The festival, organized for the third time in the Midyat district of Mardin with the contributions of the Midyat District Governorship, Midyat Municipality, and philanthropic businessmen, sees an average daily attendance of 20,000 people.
Continuing in the bus terminal area of the Işıklar neighborhood, the festival features 60 booths and more than 5,000 products on display. There are exhibitions of local products, stone and silver processing arts, local dishes, and handicrafts. The festival, accompanied by live music and a video projection, has seen strong demand. Additionally, a special booth was set up for Palestine at the festival.
Sevinç Korkmaz, a staff member representing the Zekiye Midyat Women and Family Center of the Midyat Municipality, stated, “We have set up booths at the festival where we exhibit and sell products we produced in filigree, relief, amigurumi, wood painting, wire twisting, and wood burning courses. The income from the sales provides earnings for our women. We are immensely grateful to our Mayor Veysi Şahin, our Midyat District Governor, and the philanthropic businessmen who provided us with this beautiful environment for organizing the festival.”
Derviş Özdemir mentioned, “We are coming from Erzurum. Actually, we were going to come here from Malatya, Mardin, Şırnak, and Cizre. Since we have friends here, we said let’s visit while we are here. What I see at the festival is that many cultures are gathered here, which really shows what people can achieve together. We are actually engaged in trade, specifically honey trade. I didn’t see an area related to honey at the festival. Hopefully, if that happens, maybe next year we will bring something here, and we can share it thanks to you. I congratulate you on this and wish you success in this matter.”
